The number of the Militia of this Province by my last account is 5060. I cannot say that the inhabitants increase in that proportion (at least) as they do in the neighbouring provinces where the purchases of land are easier had, than with us, great numbers of the younger sort leave Long Island yearly to plant in the Jerseys & Pensylvania.

It is Remarkable that in New York there are above ten years 147 males & 996 females more than in Albany [ana in Albany] 1029 males & 188 females [under ten] more than in New York Which is Accounted for by this parts being- a trading; place & many of the males go abroad of course many females Lye fallor & per haps in the County they are better breeders & I believe many younger.
