North Pearl, east side, Columbia to Steuben.

North Pearl street was laid out in 1720 at Steuben street 7 rods, and at Co-
lumbia street, 6 rods 10 feet wide. Columbia street at North Pearl was 3 rods
3 feet wide in 1737. In 1736 permission was given "to erect a market house
where the old block house stood" at the junction of Pearl and Columbia

North Pearl, east side, Maiden Lane to Steuben.

(a). This lot was sold by the city to Johannes Beekman, Jr., in 1720 for £83.18.6d. Steuben street at this corner was 3 rods wide, Rynland measure.-Alb. An., VIII, 251-3; IX, 20. (b). This lot was sold to Johannes Cuyler by the city in 1720, for £51.188.6d.

(c). In 1695, Marten Cregier was permitted to erect a house upon this narrow lot:

through the middle of this lot, and the gate in Pearl was commonly called Roseboom's gate,

Lots (7), (8) and (9) formed parts of the greater lot patented to Goosen Gerritse:
[Van Schaick,] in 1653, who sold the same in 1654, to Marcelis Janse; in 1659 the latter con
veyed the northerly half to Cornelis Wynkoop, and in 1666, C. W. conveyed the same to Claas.

(7). This small parcel Claas Ripse V. D. sold to Gerrit Theunise in 1672, who;
conveyed the same to Richard Frazier.

(8). Claas Ripse to Omy La Grange in 1671; later (1677), Samuel Wilson became
the owner of (7) and (8), and to perfect the title the commissarissen conveyed the same to Pieter
Meese Vrooman whose wife's former husband, Gerrit Janse Stavast, bought the parcel No.:

Claase, widow of Jan Burger, deceased, and she to Samuel Wilson.

Lots (10), (11), (12) and (13), are portions of a larger lot patented in 1654, to Jan:
Roeloffs, son of the noted Anneke Janse; 1657, Jan R. conveyed the whole parcel to Cornelis:
Segerse [Van Voorhout]; and 1659-60 C. Segerse the same to Gerrit Slichtenhorst, who re-;
tained the westerly half, but divided the easterly half into 3 smaller parcels and sold
(11). to Gerrit Lansing; and Gerrit L., in 1668-70, to Barent Albertse Bratt;

North Pearl, west side, between Steuben and Columbia,

The palisades on the north side of the village crossed North Pearl at first 192 feet north
of Maiden lane; later 342 feet north of the same street; at the next remove probably at the
junction of Columbia street, and finally in 1744, during the old French war at the present
Canal street.

All the land from a point a few feet south of Steuben street nearly to the Vossen kil
(to Canal street ?), and lying west of North Pearl was patented in 1667, to Andries De Vos.
The dimensions of this plat were 30 rods on the north side, 31 rods on the south, 23 rods on
the east and 15 rods on west. In 1675, De Vos conveyed this parcel of land to the church
who conveyed the same the next year to Cornelis Van Dyck for a hop yard.-Alb. Co. Rec.,

The block bounded by North Pearl, Chapel, Maiden lane and Steuben street, was
not originally of the same dimensions as at present, thus: the distance from Pearl to
Chapel along Maiden lane is now 174 feet 2 inches; in 1668 it was less than 130 feet.
:Steuben street was also ordered to be laid out of variable widths, and in one instance
:at least farther south than its present position; in 1715 it was to be 18% feet Rynland
: measure, from Broadway to Pearl, and west of Pearl 4 rods wide,-Alb. An., VII, 24;
:1720, 3 rods wide at the east side of Pearl street.-Alb. An., VIII, 251; and 21 feet wide
I on the west side of the same street, and at least 40 feet farther south.-Alb. An., VIII, 243.
:(16). 1698-1713-27, Johannes Harmense Visscher; a "corner house" next the palisades,
the northernmost house on the street; Johannes Cuyler living opposite and within
