This square was patented to Lourens Jansen in 1653, and conveyed in 1655, to Lourens Jansen and Cornelis Steenwyck for the use of Gabriel Leendertse, and same day conveyed to Carsten and Myndert Frederickse, and between them by agreement divided."-Patents, 415. The division was made by an east and west line through the centre of the lot, Carsten taking the south and Myndert the north half.

(1). This lot, originally patented to Volkert Janse Douw, is perhaps the only one which has remained in one family from the first settlement of the village.

(10). 1716-34, Frederick Myndertse had a house standing on this lot, and received temporary license to build a smith's shop 15 feet wide north of said house, but not within 6 feet of the pallisades. His house stood on the north corner of "Spanish," now Hudson street and Broadway.
