Wendel, Evert Janse, cooper, b. in 1615, in Emden, probably resided in New Amsterdam, some years before coming to Albany. His house lot was on the west corner of James and State streets, which after his death, was owned by his son Thomas. He married first, Susanna Du Trieux, July 31, 1644, in New Amsterdam; secondly, Maritie Abrahamse Vosburgh, dau. of Abraham Piet: V. and widow of Thomas Janse Mingael, in 1663. In anticipation of this marriage he made a contract, by which he agreed to reserve out of his first wife's estate the sum of 1,000 guilders, for his 6 ch.. by her; viz: Elsie, a. 16 y. ; Johannes, a. 14 y.; Diewer, a. 10 y.; Jeronimus, a. 8y, Philip. a. 5 y.; Evert, a. 3 y.; Isaac De Foreest and Symon Symonse Groot, were the uncles of these children, on the mother's side. His lot was on the south side of State street, the third west of Pearl. He was justice of peace 1684; 1655, commissioned captain; 1690. commissioned with others to treat with the Five Nations and superintend affairs relating to the defense of Albany; made a will which was proved Feb. 9, 169%; Elizabeth his w. executrix. Ch: Tringen (Tryntje), w. of Abraham Staats; Hendrick, who owned a lot on east corner of State street and Broadway which was sold to his brother-in-law Abram Staets; Andries Jochemse in Beverwyck, 1663-5. Jochem Wesselse made a will Feb. 9, 1680-1, and d. same year. His house and lot was on the south corner of Broadway and State street, extending east to the river and south to the Rutten kil. He also had a lot on the south side of Yonker street upon ye hills there next above Capt. Philip Pieterse Schuyler's" near Lodge street, which in 1674, he sold to Hendrick Cuyler. His wife was the wid. of a former husband; Jan Casparse was her son and heir; in 1657, Willem Hoffmeyer called Jochem Wesselse his step father.
