Hansen. This is the surname assumed by the desendants of Capt. Hans Hendrickse, who early came to Beverwyck as a trader. His house lot was on the east side of Broadway next north of Bleecker Hall. HENDRICKSE, Hendrick [Van Harstenhorst] was in Beverwyck in 1656, a baker by trade: he was de ceased Sept. 23, 1662, when his widow, Geertruy Barentse Dwingelo, made a contract of marriage with Jacob Hevick or Gevick, promising to reserve out of her estate 100 gl. for her two children, Lysbet, aged 6 years, and Judick, aged 3 years, by her late husband.

Hesselingh, Dirk, was in Albany in 1666, subsequently at Schenectady where he bought, in 1671, a bouwery of Juriaen Teunise Tappen, which he sold the following year to Harmen Vedder. He also bought land at Lubberde's land [Troy]. In 1667 he m. Eytje Hendrickse, who with her three sisters had been taken prisoners by the Indians at Yonkers in 1655. Her sister Albrechtie was rescued in 1667 and brought into New Haven.

Hevick (Gevick), Jacob, b. at Mecklenburgh, made a marriage contract with Geertruy Barentse Dwingelo widow of the late Hendrick Hendrickse Van Hartstenhorst, in which they agree to reserve half the bride's estate for her children: Lysbet a. 6 y. and Judick a. 3 y., by said Hendrick H. V. H. In 1666 in company with Reyndert Pieterse he bought Pieter Bronck's house, lot, and brewery.

Hoffmeyer, Willem, in 1656, was fined 500 guilders and to be imprisoned until the fine be paid, and banished three years from Manhattans for conveying beer up the river and selling it to the Indians. He retired to Beverwyck where in 1657. Jochem Wesselse Backer brought an action against him for possession of a house; the defendant alleged that plaintiff being his stepfather made him a present of the premises on his wedding day; plaintiff puts in a special agreement and gains the cause.

Hoogeboom, Cornelis Pieterse, tile and brickmaker, was in Manhatans in 1656; at New Amstel, on the Delaware, in 1657, at which time he had a son in the same trade at Beverwyck; in 1660-1 at Beverwyck associating with himself, Jan Andriese De Graaf, he attempted brickmaking at Manhatans in 1661, but with indifferent success. In 1664, he engaged to make tiles at Beverwyck for Gerrit Van Slichtenhorst, from January to November for 60 beavers, half in tiles. In 1675 he was at Kingston, where he probably resided till his death. In 1719, Pieter Hogenboom, Ruleif Elting. Cornelis Elting, Thomas Noxon and Jacobus Brown, petition for a survey of the Great Vly in Kingston, come to them by the decease of Cornelis Hogenboom and Janite his widow and Severyn Tenhout, late of the county of Ulster.

HOOGEBOOM, Bartholomens (Meuwis. Mees), Pieterse, probably came to New Netherland with his brother Cornelis, about the year 1656. In 1657, he had an affray in Beverwyck with Jacob Loockermans, who drew a knife and wounded him severely in the face for which he was sentenced to pay 350 guilders. At that time Hoogeboom was servant of Claes HendrickseVan Utrecht. In 1685, he was fined 12 shillings and costs of court for burying his negro in a private and suspicious manner. In 1680, he was a skipper
