Accumulating a fund by the contributions of its members, which shall enable them to purchase a homestead or other real estate, or to borrow money for their use and invest- ment in any lawful business that may seem most advan- tageous.
Furnishing light and power by means of electricity.
Insurance of owners of real estate, mortgages, etc., against loss by reason of defective titles, liens, etc.; to hold on de- posit, in trust as security, real and personal property; to make insurance for the fidelity of persons holding places of responsibility; to act as executors, administrators, as- signees, receivers, etc., and generally to exercise all powers and privileges, and do and perform such matters and things as are set forth in the 19th paragraph, section 2d of the act of Assembly approved April 29, 1874, and its supple- ment approved May 24, 1881.
Accumulating a fund by the contributions of the members thereof, and to loan the same to them from time to time to enable them to purchase real estate, engage in business or build themselves dwelling houses.

Purchasing, leasing, holding, mortgaging and selling real estate and mineral rights; of proving and opening mines; of mining and preparing for market or for its own use and consumption, coal, iron ore and other minerals; of erect- ing and constructing furnaces, forges, mills, foundries, manufacturies, and such other improvements and erections as it may deem necessary; of manufacturing iron and steel, or any other metal, or either thereof, in all shapes and forms, and either of these metals exclusively, or in com- bination with other metals or with wood; of transporting all said articles or any of them to market; of disposing of the same, and of doing all such other acts and things as a successful and convenient prosecution of said business may require.
Accumulating a fund by the monthly contributions of its members, by fines and premiums on loans and interest on investments, sufficient to enable them to purchase a home- stead or other real estate, or to loan out the same to them, securing the payment of such moneys and the perform- ance of the other conditions upon which such loans may be lawfully made by bond and mortgage or other security; to purchase and erect houses, and to sell, convey, lease or mortgage the same at pleasure to its stockholders or others, for the benefit of its stockholders in such manner; also, that the premiums taken by said corporation for the prefer- ence or priority of such bonds, shall not be deemed usuri- ous, and, also, that in case of nonpayment of instalment premiums of interest by borrowing stockholders for six months, payment of principal, premiums and interest, with- out deducting the premiums paid, or interest thereon may be enforced by proceeding on their securities according to law; to purchase lands and to sell and convey the same, or any part thereof, to the stockholders or others, in fee simple, with or without the reservation of ground rents, the quantity of lands purchased not to exceed the amount allowed by law, and to be disposed of within the period limited by law.
Producing, dealing in, transporting, storing and supplying natural gas.
Engaging in and carrying on the business of the insurance of owners of real estate, mortgages and others interested in real estate from loss by defective titles, liens and encum- brances; for receiving and holding on deposit and in trust, and as security, estate, real and personal, including the notes, bonds, obligations of States, individuals, companies and corporations, and the same to purchase, collect, adjust and settle, sell and dispose of in any manner without proceeding in law or equity, and for such price and on such terms as may be agreed on between them and parties contracting with them; of making insurances for the fi- delity of persons holding places of responsibility and of trust, and of receiving upon deposit for safe keeping, jew- elry, plate, stocks, bonds and valuable property of every description upon terms as may be agreed upon; of acting as assignees, receivers, guardians, executors, administra- tors, and of executing trusts of every description not incon- sistent with the laws of this State and of the United States of America; of acting as agents for the purpose of issuing or countersigning the certificates of stock, bonds or other obligations of any corporation, association, municipality, State or public authority, and of receiving and managing any sinking fund thereof, on such terms as may be agreed upon; of becoming the surety in any case where by law one or more sureties may be required for the faithful performance of any trust or office; of taking, receiving and holding any and all such pieces of real property as may have been the subject of any assurance made by this proposed corpora- tion, under the powers conferred by its charter, and of granting, bargaining, selling, conveying and disposing of the same in such manner as the said proposed corporation may see proper.
The manufacture of iron or steel, or both, or of any other metal or article of commerce from metal, wood, or both.
The supply of water to the public in the city of Scranton and to such persons, partnerships and associations residing therein and adjacent thereto as may desire the same, and to provide, erect and maintain all works, reservoirs, conduits, pipes and other appliances and machinery necessary or proper for raising and introducing into said city a sufficient supply of pure water, and the exercise of all such powers and privileges as are granted to such corporations under the laws of said Commonwealth.
To manufacture and supply gas for heat and heating purposes to the people of the city of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny, and to such persons, partnerships and corporations residing therein or adjacent thereto as may desire the same, upon such terms as may be agreed upon. The said gas to be manufactured from coal, petroleum, water or other substances as said intended corporation shall deem profitable so to do. Also to make, erect and maintain therein the necessary buildings, machinery, and apparatus for manufacturing and storing gas and distributing the same by pipes, conduits or other means, with right to enter upon any public highway, street, lane or alley for the purposes of laying down pipes, altering and repairing the same in the manner prescribed in said act of Assembly.

Accumulating a fund by the contributions of the members thereof, and to loan the same to them from time to time, to enable them to purchase real estate, engage in business or build themselves dwelling houses.
Producing, dealing in, transporting, storing and supplying natural gas.
Producing, dealing in, transporting, storing and supplying natural gas to such persons, corporations or associations, within convenient distance of its lines of pipe, as may desire to use the same, upon such terms and under such reasonable regulations as the gas company shall establish. Carrying on the business of mining coal in the counties of Clearfield, Centre, Blair, Cameron and Jefferson, in the State of Pennsylvania, and in such counties to purchase or lease coal lands, to open and work the same, to mine, quarry, ship, transport, and buy and sell coal, with power to erect, construct, purchase and own such buildings, machinery and other appliances of whatever nature necessary or convenient in the conduct or management of the said business, and with power also, by the directors of the said corporation, in their discretion, to sell, lease or otherwise dispose of any of the property of the said corporation, real or personal, without consent of a majority in value of the capital stock, or of any special authority of the stockholders, except as may be provided in the by-laws of the company.
