CHAPTER LI.

An Act to detach certain townships from McLeod county, and to attach the same to Sibley county.

SECTION 1. What townships to be added to Sibley County.

2. Proposed change to be voted on by electors. How election to be held.
3. When act to take effect.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota:

SECTION 1. That townships numbered one hundred adds certain and fourteen (114) north of ranges Nos. twenty-nine townships to Sib (29) and thirty (30) west of the fifth principal meridian, are hereby detached from McLeod county and attached to Sibley county, and the said townships are hereby declared to be, and shall hereafter form and be a portion of said Sibley county in this State.

SEC. 2. This proposed alteration of attaching said townships to Sibley county shall be submitted to the Proposed change: people of McLeod and Sibley counties for their approval or rejection, at the next general election of this State, viz: On the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six. The ballots at such election shall be written or printed as follows. Those in favor of the alteration and annexation of said townships to Sibley county:

"For attaching townships Nos. 114 north of ranges. 29 and 30 to the county of Sibley."

And those against such alteration and annexation: Against attaching townships Nos. 114 north of ranges 29 and 30 to the county of Sibley."

The polls of such election shall open and close at the same time, and be conducted in the same manner, and the same notice shall be given of such election as is or may be directed by law for electing State of ficers; and the returns thereof shall be made, certified and canvassed, in the manner provided by law for returning and canvassing votes for State officers; and if

How election to it shall appear from said returns and canvass that a majority of the legal voters of each of the counties of McLeod and Sibley, present at the various polls and voting at such election, have ratified the proposed alteration and annexation of said townships to said Sibley county, then the same shall be valid to all intents and purposes, and the same shall be published by the proper officer or person according to the existing laws of this State.

SEC. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage; and all acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby repealed. Approved February 28, 1866.

CHAPTER LII.

An Act to continue the Geological Survey of the State of Minnesota, and to appropriate money therefor.

SECTION 1. Appoints State Geologist.

2. Appropriates money for Geological Survey.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota

SECTION 1. Henry H. Eames is hereby appointed Appoints State State Geologist for the term of one year, commencing January 1st, 1866. He shall be commissioned by the Governor, and it shall be his duty to continue the geological survey of this State, and prepare a report of such survey, subject to the provisions of section 2, chapter 39, of the general laws of Minnesota for 1865. SEC. 2. The following sums of money are hereby

appropriated out of any money in the State treasury Appropriates not otherwise appropriated, for the prosecution of the money for certain geological survey for the year 1866.

For salary of State Geologist, two thousand dollars, to be drawn monthly on the last day of each month. For expenses of survey in mining districts and experiments on ores, and all incidental expenses of work, shall not exceed three thousand dollars, to be drawn upon the satisfactory vouchers of the State Geologist and accounts of expenditure to be furnished by him to the State Auditor.

SEC. 3. The State Geologist shall have his office in the Capitol building, and shall there arrange and keep a collection of specimens of all minerals and such other interesting materials, which he may find in his explorations of the State. Said office shall be open to the public.

48. For expenses properly incurred in the settlement of claims against the

United States, to be approved by the Governor.

49. For the support of the indigent insane, subject to the order of the Governor.

50. For the current expenses of the Deaf and Dumb and Blind Institute, at Faribault, repairs and such other purposes for the use and benefit of the Institution as the trustees shall deem advisable for its best interests.

51. For fuel and lights for both Houses of the Legislature and the several State offices.
