The Queen has been pleased to appoint William Swainson, William Henry Kenny, Frederick Whitaker, John Salmon, Henry William Petre (commonly called the Honourable Henry William Petre), Henry St. Hill, John Yeedon Lloyd, Mathew Richmond, Henry Seymour, Ralph Richardson, Edmund Hook Wilson Bellairs, John Anderson Gilfillan, and Francis Dillon Bell, Esqrs., to be Members of the Legislative Council of New Zealand.

Her Majesty has also been pleased to appoint Robert Mooney and Donald Benton, Esqrs., to be Members of the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island; Swaminaden Ederemanesingam, Esq., to be a Member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon; and Henry Lettsom Maclean, Esq., to be a Member of the Council of the Virgin Islands.

Her Majesty has further been pleased to appoint Thomas Donaldson Selby, Esq., to be Chief Clerk of the Colonial Treasury at Hong Kong; and Michael Louisson Levéy, Esq., to be Collector of Customs and Superintendent of the Pilotage of Her Majesty's Settlements in the River Gambia.

In pursuance of the directions of an Act, passed in the twenty-fourth year of the reign of His late Majesty King George the Third, intituled "An Act to repeal so much of two Acts, made "in the tenth and fifteenth years of the reign of "His present Majesty, as authorizes the Speaker "of the House of Commons to issue his warrant "to the Clerk of the Crown for making out writs "for the election of Members to serve in Par"liament, in the manner therein mentioned, and "for substituting other provisions for the like 66 purposes:"

I do hereby give notice, that the death of Charles Geach, Esq., late a Member serving in this present Parliament for the city of Coventry, hath been certified to me in writing, under the hands of two Members serving in this present Parliament, and that I shall issue my warrant to the Clerk of the Crown to make out a new writ for the electing of a Member to serve in this present Parliament for the said city, at the end of fourteen days after the insertion of this notice in the London Gazette.

The Right Honourable the Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for Trade and Plantations

have received, through the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, a copy of a Despatch from Her Majesty's Consul at Lisbon, inclosing the copy of a Royal Order of the Portuguese Government, prohibiting the importation of foreign goods labelled as of Portuguese manufacture.

The Right Honourable the Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for Trade and Plantations have received, through the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, a copy of a French Imperial Decree from Her Majesty's Ambassador at Paris, which prohibits, until, the 31st July, 1855, the exportation of wheat and barley from Algeria to foreign countries.

The Right Honourable the Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for Trade and Plantations have received, through the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, a copy of a Despatch from Her Majesty's Consul at Marseilles, reporting that the Board of Health in that city have decided, in consequence of the cessation of cholera since the 31st ultimo, to issue clean bills of health.

The Right Honourable the Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for Trade and Plantations have received, through the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, a copy of a Despatch from Her Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Naples, re

porting the extension from December, 1854, to June, 1855, of the permission to import into that kingdom, free of duty, wheat, barley, oats, Indian corn, pulse, and flour.

By another Decree the exportation of tallow, raw, manufactured, or in barrel, is permitted on payment of a duty of 3 ducats per cantar.
