PREFACE. WE take pleasure in announcing the Thirty-Eighth Volume of Hubbell's Legal Directory. It embodies the practical suggestions of the active lawyer, and like its predecessors contains a large amount of new and valuable matter, much of which is not found in any other work of this character. With the great majority of our subscribers, most of whom have been familiar with the work for many years, it is unnecessary to refer specially to the numerous features of the Directory. We may say that although the attorneys published are of such high professional standing as to insure prompt and careful attention to all business intrusted to their care, the use of our "Subscribers' Stamps " is advisable. While it is expected that ordinary commercial business will be taken on the usual terms, we would suggest that rates be agreed upon in advance. We take great pleasure in expressing our hearty appreciation of the invaluable services rendered by many eminent members of the profession in their preparation of the synopses of laws, etc. On account of the numerous changes in State Laws, an annual revision of the volume is absolutely necessary, and you will therefore appreciate the advisability of an annual subscription.
