At a Council held at the Borough of Elizabeth in the Province of New Jersey on Tuesday the Twenty fourth day of February 1756

His Excellency laid before the Council the Minutes of the Council of War held at New York the Twelfth of December last, Transmitted to him by General Shirley & Desired the opinion of the Board whether it be Necessary to call the Assembly together as soon as Conveniently may be on the Matters Contained therein

The Council having Considered the same are Unanimously of opinion that it be Necessary for his Excellency to call the Assembly together here as soon as Possible

His Excellency also laid before the Council a Large Number of Petitions from the Inhabitants of the Countys of Hunterdon & Sussex Relating to the Murders & Depredations Committed by the French and Indians in the Neighbouring Province of Pensylvania, and the dangers they are Exposed to as they are the Frontiers of this Province.1

Which Petitions the Council advise his Excellency to Lay before the house of Assembly at their Next Meeting

His Excellency Laid before the Council Two, Affidavits Relating to the Conduct, of Ebenezer Tingley Esq' on a Tryal Between, William Masters and Thomas Griffin a Sergeant belonging to the Provincial Forces, and for Speaking words of Dangerous Consequence to the Community &

Tending to Raise Mutiny & Cause Desertion Among his Majestys Troops

The Council are of opinion that Copys of said Affidavit & Copy of this Minut be Served on Mr Tingley, so that he appear at the Next Meeting of the Governor and Council on the Twelfth day of March Next to Shew Cause if any he has why he should not be Proceeded against for the Matters Contained in said Affidavits

His Excellency Nominated M1 John Vroom to be appointed one of His Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County of Somerset, to which the Council Advised

His Excellency by the advice of Council was pleased to Sign the following Warrants
