Major Harrison having taken possession of the Llandisilio and Llanlloddian estates, as shown in the foregoing pedigree, an action of ejectment was brought against him at the Salop Lent Assizes, March 20th, 1822, by Benjamin Jones, a baker, residing in London, who claimed to be descended from David Jones, the third surviving son of Evan Jones, gent., of Llanlloddian, who died in 1716. The descent set up by Benjamin Jones was as follows:

THE DESCENT SET UP BY BENJAMIN JONES IN 1822 AND 1823.

and his case was, that the said David Jones, being a coachmaker in Shrewsbury, was married at St. Alkmond's in Shrewsbury to Ann Cole. He produced nothing to connect the said David Jones with the Llan

lloddian or Llandisilio family, except some loose testimony, and which was in itself very contradictory, setting forth that an elderly gentleman, meant to be described as the late Mr. Jones of Llandisilio, visited the father of the plaintiff in London fourteen or fifteen years before the period of this trial, and called him cousin, and gave him money; and that he also gave the children money. A witness, named John Langford of Llangollen, deposed that he was distantly related to the late Thomas Jones, Esq., and being poor, he applied to him for assistance, on which occasion the Squire told him he had been in London seeing a poor relation, who was a coachmaker, to whom he gave money, and whose family were the nearest relations he had, and who, if he had anything to give away, were more entitled to it than any one else.

It was proved on the part of Major Harrison that, the plaintiff, Benjamin Jones, had been making his researches in the registers of Llandisilio for the purpose, as he said, of claiming some part of the Ynys-y-maengwyn estate, he having represented himself as related by the mother's side to Counsellor Owen. The Rev. Edward Beans of Llandisilio proved this, and also that he (Mr. Beans) would not believe the witness Langford.

An indenture of apprenticeship was also produced; it was dated August 1st, 1711, and proved that David Jones, son of Evan Jones of Llanlloddian, in the county of Montgomery, Esq., had placed himself an apprentice to Mr. John Watking of Bristol, soap boiler, and Rachel, his wife, for seven years. The premium given was £80.

The indenture was on a £4 stamp, and endorsed “Abraham Elton, Esq., mayor; Edmund Montgomery, and Abraham Elton, the younger, bailiffs". The indenture had been found among the papers of the late Thomas Jones, Esq. A book of admissions to the freedom of the city of Bristol was also produced, and the following entry read :--
