Table 7.-- VALUE OF MANUFACTURERS' INVENTORIES FOR INDUSTRY GROUPS AND SELECTED INDUSTRIES, END OF YEAR: 1951, 1950, AND 1947 (DOLLAR FIGURES IN THOUSANDS. In the annual surveys, as in the 1947 Census of Manufactures, manufacturers were requested to report the value of their inventories at both the beginning and end of the year. In the annual surveys all establishments are required to report inventories except those in the Printing and Publishing and Allied Industries Group; in the 1947 Census of Manufactures this group was excluded, as were small establishments reporting on "short" forms in all industries (see footnote 2). A total inventories estimates is not shown for an industry group or industry if its associated standard error exceeds 15 percent; a breakdown of the total by "Finished products" and "Materials, etc." is not shown when the standard error of the estimate for either detail item exceeds 15 percent. Such withheld estimates are included, however, in the appropriate industry groups and the "All industries" estimates. Unpublished estimates, including these which can be derived by subtraction, may have standard errors in excess of 15 percent.)
