ALDINE PRESS PUBLICATIONS.

Sketches and Rhymes in the Rochdale Dialect, by JOHN TRAFFORD
CLEGG, "Th' Owd Weighver," with Portrait and Views; 2 vols., each 500 pages,
demy 8vo., cloth, £1 1s. net.

One of the choicest dialectical productions in the County Palatine.-Bury Guardian.
This volume, on its merits, is worthy of a place in every library.-Liverpool Mercury.
He writes the dialect as only one can do who has learnt to speak it in childhood.-
Manchester Guardian.

As a dialect writer he was probably unsurpassed. He had a marvellous knowledge
of the folk-speech of the district, and in acquiring the dialect he became so
thoroughly impregnated with the spirit and genius of the people that his
writings are filled with its homely humour and pathos.-Rochdale Observer.
Writings of Oliver Ormerod, with Memoir, by HENRY COLLEY MARCH,
M.D. LOND., F.S. A. Portrait, and the original humorous Illustrations to the "Felley fro
Rachde," drawn by Frederick J. Shields and engraved by Robert Langton; cr. 8vo.,
art cloth, 5/- net.

Racy sketches, bubbling over with humour, sparkling with homely wit that is racy
of the soil.-Rochdale Observer.

[ocr errors]

Not the least interesting part of this volume is Dr. March's account of Oliver
Ormerod's life, in the course of which there are some delightful glimpses of a
character rich in Quaker-like simplicity and sterling goodness of heart.-

Literary World.
We imagine that many readers will prize the book for the sake of the earlier illus-
trations drawn by F. J. Shields. These represent the now well-known artist
in a light which will be quite new to many who know the lofty ideal work of
his later years.-Manchester Guardian.
