CHAPTER XXI.

AN ACT to incorporate the Rock Creek Bridge Company.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas, as follows:

SECTION 1. A. J. Baker and E. M. Sewell are hereby incorporated into a body politic and corporate, by the name and name. style of the Rock Creek Bridge Company, and all the powers, privileges, rights, and immunities provided for by an act entitled "an act concerning corporations," are hereby attached to and made applicable to this act of incorporation.

SEC. 2. The company hereby incorporated shall have the Location.

right to erect, construct, and to keep in repair a bridge across Rock Creek, in Breckenridge county, in said territory, where the Santa Fe road crosses said creek.

SEC. 3. That it shall not be lawful for any person or persons whatsoever to build, erect, or construct a bridge or ferry on or over Rock Creek, within three miles of said Santa Fe road, except the company as above named; and the said company hereby incorporated are authorized, in their discretion, to charge such rates of toll, after such bridge shall be completed, for all persons, cattle, stock, or other animals, and for all vehicles, freight, or loading, or any goods or merchandise, at such rates as shall be fixed by the board of county commissioners, or the tribunal transacting county business, of the county of Breckenridge.

This act to take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER XXII.

AN ACT to authorize Simon Ritter to erect a toll bridge over the South Platte
River, at a point herein named, in Kansas Territory.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That Simon Ritter is hereby authorized to erect a toll bridge across the South Platte river, at a point where the road leading from Colorado City to South Park crosses the same, in the territory of Kansas.

SEC. 2. He shall erect and keep in good repair a substantial bridge at the place above named, so as to render the crossing thereon safe and convenient, and may charge and receive for the same the following rates of toll; for one horse and rider, fifteen cents; for each single mule or horse, ten cents; for each head of work cattle, ten cents; for each head

of other stock, ten cents; for each one horse and carriage, twenty-five cents; for each two horses and wagon, fifty cents; for each six horse or an ox wagon, one dollar.

CHAPTER XXIII.

AN ACT to incorporate the Smoky Hill Bridge Company.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas, as follows:

SECTION 1. That the exclusive right of building and maintaining a bridge across the Smoky Hill river, between the mouth of Lyon's Creek and the line of the Fort Riley military reservation, is hereby granted, for a period of fifteen years, to P. Z. Taylor, John T. Price, William Cuddy, James B. Woodward, W. W. Herbert, Robert Wilson, James R McClure, and James P. Downer, their assigns, or such persons as may be associated with them for that purpose.

SEC. 2. The said parties named in the foregoing section are hereby authorized to form a company, to be known as the Smoky Hill Bridge Company, the capital stock of which shall be twenty-five thousand dollars, to be divided into shares of fifty dollars each; and shall have power to prescribe by-laws for the regulation of said company, receive and collect subscriptions to said capital stock, establish and collect tolls for crossing said bridge, sue and be sued, hold and convey real estate, as much as may be necessary to complete said bridge, and not to exceed one hundred and sixty acres, and do all

other acts and deeds, and exercise all the rights and privileges
generally appertaining to incorporations.

SEC. 3. The rate of tolls at said bridge shall not exceed
the average rates of the several ferries across the Kansas river,
as now established by law.

SEC. 4. When five thousand dollars shall have been subscribed to the capital stock of said bridge, and ten per cent. paid thereon to either of the parties named in the first section of this act, a meeting of the stockholders shall be held for the purpose of electing a president, a secretary and treasurer, and three trustees, who shall manage and control the affairs of said company.

SEC. 5. If said bridge is not completed within three years from and after the passage of this act, this charter shall be forfeited.

SEC. 6. This act to take effect and be in force from and
after its passage.

CHAPTER XXIV.

AN ACT to establish a toll bridge across Big Stranger Creek, in Leavenworth
county, Kansas territory.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of Kansas
Territory, as follows:

SECTION 1. That John McCarty & Co., their associates, and
assigns, be and they are hereby authorized and fully empow-
ered to build, contract and complete and keep a toll bridge
over Big Stranger Creek, at the crossing of the Territorial
Road, located from the city of Leavenworth to Burlington, in
this Territory, for the term of fifteen years; and no other
bridge or ferry shall be established upon said stream within
one mile either above or below the crossing of said road over
said creek: Provided, the consent of a majority of the County

Board of said county be first had and obtained by said Mc-
Carty & Co., or their assigns, to construct said bridge.

SEC. 2. Said company shall have the power of suing and Powers. being sued, to hold and acquire all such real estate, and to erect and construct such buildings and other appurtenances as may be necessary to the erection and maintenance of said toll bridge.

SEC. 3. The tolls to be charged for crossing said bridge Tolls. shall not exceed 10 cents for single horse and rider, 20 cents for one horse and vehicle, 30 cents for two horses and vehicle, and five cents for each additional horse, mule or ass, 20 cents for one yoke of cattle and vehiele, and five cents for each additional yoke; for droves of cattle, horses, mules or asses, five cents per head, for droves of sheep or hogs, three cents per head, for menageries and wild animals not here enumerated, such sum as may be agreed upon. All funeral processions Pass free. shall be allowed to pass and re-pass over said bridge free of any charge.

SEC. 4. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with the Repealed. provisions of this act be and the same are hereby repealed.

SEC. 5. This act to be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER XXV.

AN ACT to incorporate the Big Stranger River Bridge Company.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That Robert R. Duncan, J. M. Gallagher and Corporators. Lyman Scott, their heirs or assigns, and such persons as may be associated with them, be granted the exclusive privilege of building and maintaining a good and substantial bridge over the Big Stranger River, at a point where the Territorial Road, leading from Leavenworth to Ft. Riley, crosses the same;
