CHAPTER XIII.

AN ACT to extend the time for the completion of the Kansas River Bridge at
Tecumseh.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That the Kansas River Bridge Company are hereby granted an extension of two years from the 30th of How long August next for the completion of their bridge at Tecumseh ; and the limitations, rights, powers and privileges of their charter shall be deemed to commence from and on the completion of said work.

CHAPTER XIV.

AN ACT to incorporate the Lykins and Linn County Bridge Company. Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That the right of building and maintaining a bridge across the Osage river, at or within two miles of a Location. point where the territorial road from Leavenworth city to Fort

Scott crosses the said river of Osage, is hereby granted for the

period of twenty years, to J. H. Jones, Elisha Smith, Robert Term. Ewing, sen., R. B. Mitchell, William Snook, Samuel Scott, Incorporators. Lewis Stotts, W. C. Crowell, Seth Clover, W. R. Wagstaff, Baptiste Peoria and E. W. White, or their successors or assigns, or such persons as may be associated with them for that

purpose.

SEC. 2. That said J. H. Jones and the other persons named Name and stock. in the foregoing section, or a majority of them, are hereby authorized to form a company, to be known as the Lykins and Linn County Bridge Company, the capital stock of which shall not exceed seventy-five thousand dollars, to be divided into

shares of ten dollars each, and shall have power to prescribe by-laws for the regulation of said company, receive and collect subscriptions to such capital stock, may sue and be sued, hold and convey real estate, so much as may be necessary for the construction of said bridge, and do all other acts and things and exercise all the rights and privileges appertaining to corporations, necessary and proper for the objects herein stated. SEC. 3. The rates of toll on said bridge shall be such as the tribunal transacting county business for the county in which the same may be situated may prescribe.

SEC. 4. Unless said bridge shall be commenced within two years, this act to be void.

SEC. 5. This act to take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER XV.

AN ACT to establish a toll bridge across the Marias des Cygnes river at
Peoria city.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That John Butcher, or his assigns, shall have the exclusive right to build and maintain a toll bridge, for the term of fifteen years, across the Marias des Cygnes river, at Peoria city, Franklin county; that the said John Butcher shall have power to establish and collect tolls for crossing said bridge, sue and be sued, hold and convey real estate, so much as shall be necessary for the construction of said bridge, and do all other acts and exercise all the rights and privileges generally pertaining to such corporations; the exclusive privilege to extend up and down the river one mile each way from said bridge at Peoria city, Franklin county.

SEC. 2. The rates of toll shall be such as the County Board Tolls. shall, from time to time, direct.

SEC. 3. That all acts and parts of acts conflicting with this Acts repealed. act are hereby repealed.

AN ACT authorizing I. E. Moore, M. L. Wood, A. J. Chipman, George Crawford
and others to build a bridge across the Cottonwood River, at the Santa Fe
Crossing.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That from and after the passage of this act, the sole and exclusive privilege is hereby granted to Ira E. Moore, M. L. Wood, A. James Chipman, George Crawford and others, their associates and assigns, for the period of ten years, Term and loca to erect, construct and maintain a bridge across the Cottonwood river, at or near the point where the Santa Fe road, leading from Independence, in the State of Missouri, to Santa Fe, New Mexico, crosses the said river: Provided, that the bridge is commenced within one year from the passage of this act, and completed within one year thereafter.

SEC. 2. The said company shall, at all times, maintain a good bridge at said point, sufficient for the accommodation of all the traveling public; and no other person or persons whatsoever shall be permitted to build or maintain a bridge or ferry within five miles of the point selected and designated by said company and their associates for said bridge within said term.

CHAPTER XVII.

AN ACT to incorporate the Monument Creek Bridge Company.
Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That the exclusive right and privilege of building and maintaining a toll bridge across Monument Creek, near its junction with the Fountain qui Bouille, in the territory of Kansas, be and is hereby granted to A. Cutler, J. B. Woodward, and William J. King, their heirs and assigns, for the term of ten years from the passage of this act; Provided, that such bridge be so constructed as not to obstruct the present or future fording of the same.

SEC. 2. That said company shall at all times maintain a good and sufficient bridge at said point, and keep the same repaired, and at all times in readiness for the accommodation of the traveling public, and no other person or persons whomsoever shall be permitted to build or maintain a bridge or ferry on said stream, within two miles of said crossing, within said term of years.

SEC. 3. The rate of tolls shall be regulated and fixed by the tribunal transacting county business in Arrapahoe county. SEC. 4. A failure to complete said bridge within two years from the passage of this act, shall work a forfeiture of this charter.

AN ACT to incorporate the Osage Falls Bridge and Ferry Company.

Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the
Territory of Kansas:

SECTION 1. That A. B. Massey, Hardy Keeney, Addison Corporators.
Danford, John Watson, George A. Crawford, Asa Hairgrove,
Andrew Stark, R. B. Mitchell, Jacob M. Fickes, and their
associates, be and are hereby created a body corporate, with

full power to erect a toll bridge or bridges across the Marias Location. des Cygnes river and Big Sugar Creek, in Linn county, at or near the mouth of the Big Sugar, and to run a ferry across Ferry. the Marias des Cygnes, at the mouth of the Big Sugar, until such bridge or bridges shall be built.

SEC. 2. That the parties aforenamed shall erect a good substantial bridge or bridges across the streams referred to in section one of this act, and keep the same in good repair, so as to render the crossing thereon safe and convenient, and may charge, demand and receive such rates of toll as may be Tolls regulated established by the tribunal transacting county business, until such time as said bridge or bridges may be completed, and after the completion of said bridge or bridges they may then charge, demand and receive the following rates of toll on their Tolls granted by bridge or bridges: for each footman, five cents; for each man and horse, ten cents; for each single mule and horse, five cents; for each head of work cattle, three cents; for each head of other stock, two cents; for each one horse and carriage, twenty cents; for each two horses and wagon, forty cents; for each six horse or ox team, seventy-five cents.

SEC. 3. That the capital stock of said company shall be
