A FURTHER SUPPLEMENT

To the act incorporating the Philadelphia and Reading railroad company.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the period of time for the extension of the upper terminus of the Philadelphia and Reading railroad company, into the borough of Pottsville, fixed by the act of the twenty-ninth of March, Anno Domini, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight, shall be extended for two years from the time then fixed: Provided however, That hereafter said company shall run their passenger cars to and from the borough of Pottsville, if an equitable arrangement can be made for that purpose with the Mount Carbon railroad company.

A SUPPLEMENT

To an act, entitled "An Act to authorize the governor to incorporate the Tioga and Elmira plank road company,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the act, entitled "An Act to authorize the governor to incorporate the Tioga and Elmira plank road company," approved the eighth day of April, eighteen hundred and forty-eight, be and the same is hereby altered and amended, as to allow the commissioners to open the books on or before the first day of July, eighteen hundred and fifty; and that the time fixed for commencing the road be extended for three years, and the time for completing the same to seven years; and that James Miller, Seth Daggett, Edsel Mitchel, Levi J. Nichols, Henry H. Potter, Josiah Emery, Stephen L. Palmeter, John Stowel, Wright Dunham and Hector Miller, be and are hereby appointed additional commissioners.

No. 274.

AN ACT

Submitting it to the people of Union and Northumberland counties, to vote by ballot for and against the erection of poor houses in said counties.

WHEREAS, It has been represented to the legislature, that the citizens of Union and Northumberland counties, are desirous of knowing the sentiments of the people expressed at the ballot box, in order to ascertain whether a majority of said citizens are in favor of erecting a county poor house, in each of said counties, and if so, that they may thereafter apply for the passage of a law if deemed expedient, to carry out the will and wishes of the people thus expressed; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa

To the act, entitled "An Act to establish an academy at Brookville, in Jefferson county, and for other purposes," approved the thirteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That hereafter a majority of the trustees mentioned in the ninth section of said act, shall constitute a quorum ;" and so much of said act as is hereby altered or supplied, be and the same is hereby repealed.

A FURTHER SUPPLEMENT

To an act, entitled "An Act to incorporate the Delaware County insurance company."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa tives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, The affairs of the company shall be managed by twenty-eight directors, to be chosen annually hereafter on the first Monday in January, between the hours of ten, A. M., and two, P. M.; the directors for the time twenty-eight di- being shall appoint a president and vice president of the company, and such other officers as they may deem necessary for conducting and executing the business of the said corporation, who shall perform the duties of their respective offices until they shall be re-elected, or their successors shall be chosen : Provided, That the eighth section of the act to which this is a supplement, be and the same is hereby repealed.

A SUPPLEMENT

To an act, entitled "An Act to authorize the governor to incorporate a company to erect a toll bridge over the river Susquehanna, at the village of Tunkhannock," passed the fourteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly

met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Annual meeting hereafter the stockholders of the company incorporated by the act to for choosing offiwhich this is a supplement, shall meet annually on the second Monday cers. of May, at such place as shall be fixed by the rules and orders of said company, for the purpose of choosing the officers for said company for the ensuing year, which officers, when elected, shall hold their offices until others are duly elected and qualified.

SECTION 2. The notices required by the act to which this is a sup- Notice. plement, to be given in the newspapers of Luzerne county, shall hereafter be given in the newspapers of the county of Wyoming, instead of the newspapers of Luzerne county.

SECTION 3. The moiety of the fines, which by the tenth section of Fines. the act to which this is a supplement, are to be paid to the township of Tunkhannock, shall hereafter be paid to the borough of Tunkhannock, for the same purpose as in said section of said act specified.

SECTION 4. The president and managers of the company incorpo Tolls may be rated in pursuance of the act to which this is a supplement, shall have reduced. the right to reduce, according to their discretion, the tolls which said company are by the act to which this is a supplement authorized to demand and receive.
