THE second number of the "INDIANA ANNUAL REGISTER AND POCKET MANUAL," revised and corrected for the year 1846, is now presented for public approbation and patronage. It has not been found necessary to make an entirely original work, inasmuch as the changes in the actual condition of a majority of the individuals mentioned in its pages, have not been so material and numerous, during the past year, as to demand this labor. The names of State and County officers who have been commissioned through the office of Secretary of the State, since the publication of the Register for 1845, will be found in the APPENDIX, in which also some valuable statistical tables are inserted. The "LIST OF POST-OFFICES," their localities, and names of Postmasters, have been prepared with special care on the part of the Editor, and the Publisher ventures to express the opinion that the list will be found more full and accurate than any which either government or individual enterprise has hitherto furnished for public convenience. The "NATIONAL REGISTER " embraces items of information to which daily reference is found necessary by business and professional men; and it is thought its addition to the Register will be found a valuable one.

It can hardly be necessary for the Publisher of the REGISTER to offer any remarks in reference to its convenience to every class of citizens. If "the worth of a thing is best known by the want of it," he is convinced that the non-appearance of this work in future years will be deemed a matter of sincere regret by all. But he would fain hope that the large expenditures which he has already made to present a useful publication to his fellowcitizens, may be promptly remunerated by its sales; and he begs to pledge in return for a liberal patronage, his best endeavors to render future editions of the work conformable to the wants of all classes, whether in their business, political, or social relations. Indianapolis, November, 1845.
