CA P. XXV. Preamble. An Act to confirm certain Marriages heretofore solemnized in the District of St. Francis. W (22d. March, 1825.) THEREAS many Marriages have been had and solemnized by Protestant dissenting Ministers, by persons reputed to be Protestant dissenting Ministers, and by Justices of the Peace within the limits of the District of St. Francis; And whereas it is expedient to prevent all doubts and questions concerning the validity of the same; Be it therefore enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of GreatBritain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec, in North"America," and to make further provision for the Government of the said "Province;" And it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that all Marriages heretofore had, and solemnized within the limits of the District of St. Francis, by any Protestant Dissenting Minister, by any Person reputed to be District of St. a Protestant Dissenting Minister, or by any Justice of the Peace, shall be adjudged, esteemed and taken to be, and to have been from the day of the celebration of such Marriages respectively, good and valid in Law, to all civil effects, and to all intents and purposes whatsoever, any law, usage or custom, to the contrary notwithstanding. CAP. XXVI. AN ACT to authorize a further Loan of Money for the erection of the MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN, WH (22d March, 1825.) THEREAS it is expedient to authorize the Loan of a greater Sum of Money than hath by Law already been allowed for the erection of the Common Gaol in the Inferior District of Saint Francis; May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great-Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed "in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, " An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec, "in North-America," and to make further provision for the Government of the "said Province;" And it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that. in addition to the sum already fixed for the erection of a Common Gaol in the Inferior District of Saint Francis, under and in virtue of an Act of the Legislature of this Province, of the fourth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act to authorize the erecting of a Common Gaol in the Inferior District "of Saint Francis, and for providing the means of defraying the expenses there"of, and for other purposes," it shall be lawful for the Commissioners appointed in virtue of the said Act, for the purposes thereof, to borrow and effect, on the best terms they can procure, a Loan or Loans at an interest not exceeding the legal rate of interest, a further sum or sums of Money not exceeding in all the sum of eight hundred pounds, currency, towards the erection of the said Gaol, and which said sum of Money, with the interest annually to accrue thereupon, shall be reimbursed and paid to the Lender or Lenders, and shall be accounted for in the manner as mentioned and provided in the above-recited Act, II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that the said Common Gaol, when erected and finished, and notice thereof shall have been given by Proclamation as provided in and by the said Act, as also the Temporary Gaol provided by the authority of the said Act, shall be by the aforesaid Commissioners delivered over to the Sheriff, for the time being, of the said Inferior District of Saint Francis, under whose direction and charge the same shall thereafter be and remain. U qu'il est expédient d'autoriser l'emprunt d'une plus grande somme d'argent qu'il n'en a déja été accordé par la Loi, pour l'érection de la Prison Commune dans le District Inférieur de Saint François ; Qu'il plaise donc à Votre Majesté qu'il puisse être statué, et qu'il soit statué par la Très-Excellente Majesté du Roi, par et de l'avis et consentement du Conseil Législatif.ct de l'Assemblée de la Province du Bas-Canada, constitués et assemblés en vertu et sous l'autorité d'un Acte passé dans le Parlement de la Grande-Bretagne, intitulé, "Acte qui rappelle certaines parties d'un Acte passé dans la quatorzième "année du Règne de Sa Majesté, intitulé, "Acte qui pourvoit plus efficace66 ment pour le Gouvernement de la Province de Québec, dans l'Amérique Septen"trionale," et qui pourvoit plus amplement pour le Gouvernement de la dite "Province;" Et il est par le présent statué par la dite autorité, qu'en addition à la somme déjà fixée pour l'Erection d'une Prison Commune dans le District Inférieur de Saint François, sous et en vertu d'un Acte de la Législature de cette Province de la quatrième Année du Règne de Sa Majesté, intitulé, "Acte pour autoriser l'Erection d'une Prison Commune dans le District Inférieur "de Saint François, et pour pourvoir aux moyens d'en défrayer les dépenses, et pour d'autres objets," il sera loisible aux. Commissaires nommés en vertu du dit Acte, d'emprunter pour les fins d'icelui, et effectuer aux conditions les plus favorables qu'ils pourront avoir, un emprunt ou des emprunts, à un intérêt n'excédant pas le taux légal de l'Intérêt, d'une autre somme ou d'autres sommes d'argent n'excédant pas en tout la somme de huit cents Livres courant, pour être employée pour la Bâtisse de la dite Prison, laquelle dite somme d'argent, avec l'intérêt qui s'accroîtra annuellement sur icelle, sera remboursée et payée au Prêteur ou aux Prêteurs, et il en sera rendu compte en la manière mentionnée et. pourvue dans l'Acte ci-dessus récité. 68 II. Et qu'il soit de plus statué par l'autorité susdite, que la dite Prison Commune, lors qu'elle sera érigée et finie, et qu'il en aura été donné avis par Proclamation, tel que pourvû dans et par le dit Acte, et aussi la Prison temporaire pourvue sous l'autorité du dit Acte, seront livrées par les susdits Commissaires au Shérif du dit District Inférieur de Saint François, pour le tems d'alors, sous la direction et la charge duquel elles seront et demeureront ci-après.
