virtue of and under the authority of the Act passed in the Parliament of GreatBritain, intituled, An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North America,” Clerks of the and to make further provision for the Government of the said Province;" And Clerks of the it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that nothing in the said OrdiBarristers at nance contained, shall extend to prevent any Barrister at Law, being a Clerk of the Crown, in either of the said Courts of King's Bench, or a Clerk of the tise as such in Peace in any Court of Quarter Sessions in this Province, from practising as a this Province. Barrister or as an Attorney at Law in any civil suit, cause or action now pending, or hereafter to be instituted and pending in the said Courts of King's Bench, or in any Provincial Court, or in the Court of Vice Admiralty, or in the Provincial Court of Appeals, or in any or either of them.

II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that in all cases where any proceedings shall be removed from the Court of Quarter Sessions to the Court of King's Bench, by Writ of Certiorari, the Clerk of the Peace shall not practise in such cases as a Barrister or Attorney at Law, in such Court of King's Bench.

III. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that this Act shall remain in force until the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-two and no longer.

'HEREAS it is expedient to make more ample Legislative provision for the support of the Emigrant Hospital established at Quebec, and for other purposes therein mentioned; May it therefore please Your Majesty, that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by

and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, "An "Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for making more effectual provision for "the Government of the Province of Quebec, in North America," and to make "further provision for the Government of the said Province;" and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that it shall be lawful for the Governor, Lieutenant-Governor or person administering the Government of the Province for the time being, to pay or cause to be paid by a Warrant or Warrants under 950 granted his hand, in the course of the present year, a sum not exceeding nine hundred and fifty pounds, currency, out of the unappropriated monies in the hands of the Receiver General of the Province, and which shall be paid to the Justices of the Peace herein after mentioned, and by them be applied in the manner herein after mentioned, towards the maintenance and support of the Emigrant Hospital at Quebec.

II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that the said Hospital shall for the present year, and until the end of the next Session of the Legistendance of lature be under the superintendance and direction of the five eldest Justices of eldest Justices the Peace, residing in the city of Quebec, willing to serve for that purpose, of the Peace. which Justices of the Peace shall direct and regulate the application of the money hereby appropriated, and shall be and act as Trustees of and for the said Hospital, for the purposes of this Act.

III. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that it shall be granted to be lawful for the Justices of the Peace aforesaid, entrusted with the application of the said sum of money, to apply the same in the proportion and for the purposes following, that is to say a sum not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds, to fit up additional wards in the said Hospital; a sum not exceeding one hundred pounds, currency, to be applied in making, preparing or procuring a plan or plans of an Hospital for the medical treatment of sick seamen and others coming from sea, with an estimate of the expenses for the purchase of the ground and of the erection of a suitable building for such Hospital; a sum not exceeding twenty-five pounds, currency, for a salary to an apothecary, serving under the direction of the Physicians and Surgeons of the said Hospital, and the sum of six hundred and seventy-five pounds, currency, for the support of the said Hospital.

IV. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that it shall be the Four Senior duty of the aforesaid Justices of the Peace to afford free access to the four Surgeons of senior Physicians and Surgeons residing in the city of Quebec, willing gratuitously to attend the said Hospital, in rotation, quarterly, who shall attend thereat as Physicians and Surgeons at all hours, day or night when the case may so require; Provided nevertheless, that no Physician or Surgeon shall be admitted to attend the said Hospital, unless he shall bind himself by an Instrument in writing to attend the same regularly, during his quarter, and to conform himself in all things to the rules and regulations of the said Hospital.

V.
