CAP. XXVII. An Act to make further provision towards defraying the Civil Expenditure of the Provincial Government. (22d. March 1825.) MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN, W THEREAS by Message of His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, bearing date the eighteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and twen-fixe laid before both Houses of the Legislature, it appears that the funds already.appropriated by Law are not adequate to defray the whole of the expences of Your Majesty's Civil Government in this Province, and of the administration of Justice, and other expences mentioned in the said Message; and whereas it is expedient to make further provision towards defraying the same for the year commencing the first day of November, One thousand eight hundred and twenty-four, and ending the thirty-first day of October, One thousand eight hundred and twentyfive; We, Your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal subjects, the Commons of LowerCanada in Provincial Parliament assembled, most humbly beseech Your Majesty, that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great-Britain, intituled, “ An "Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec, in North America," and to make further provision for the Government of the said Province;" And it is hereby enacted In addition to by the authority of the same, that in addition to the revenues appropriated for appropriated defraying the expences of the administration of Justice, and for the support of for defraying the Civil Government of the Province, there shall be supplied and paid from and out of the inappropriated monies which now are, or hereafter may come into the hands of the Receiver General of the Province for the time being, such sum or sums as may be necessary to make up and complete a sum not exceeding fifty eight ment, a sum of thousand and seventy-four pounds, two shillings and eleven pence, Sterling, for the out of the un- purpose of defraying the said expences of the Civil Government of this Province, mouies to ma- and of the administration of Justice therein, and the other expences for the said year £58074 2. 11. commencing the first day of November, One thousand eight hundred and twenSterling. ty-four, and ending the thirty-first day of October, One thousand eight hundred the revenues the expences of the adminis tration of Justice and sup port of the Civil Govern money granted appropriated ke up the sum and CA P. An Account of the monies expended, to and twenty-five, not including the sum or sums by Law provided for the support of wounded or disabled Militia-men, nor the appropriations made by the Acts passed in the third year of His Majesty's reign, chapters third and thirty-ninth. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that the due application of the monies by this Act appropriated, shall be accounted for to His Majesty, His Heirs and Successors, through the Lords Commisioners of His Majesty's Treasury for the time being, in such manner and form, as His Majesty, His Heirs and Successors shall be pleased to direct. III. CAP. XXVIII. AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money towards promoting the improvement of the Road of Communication between Saint Joachim and the Bay Saint Paul. (22d. March, 1825.) Preamble. MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN, WH HEREAS it is expedient to appropriate a certain sum of money towards perfecting and keeping in repair the Road of Communication between Saint Joachim and the Bay Saint Paul, wherefore, We, your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal subjects the Commons of Lower-Canada in Provincial Parliament assembled, beseech Your Majesty, that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great-Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, " An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec, in North America," and to make fur"ther provision for the Govrnement of the said Province ;" and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that out of any of the unappropriated monies remaining in the hands of the Receiver-General of this Province, it shall and le soutien des Miliciens blessés, ni les appropriations faites par les Actes passés dans la troisième année du Règne de Sa Majesté, Chapitres trois et trente-neuf. Warrant or Warrants under his hand and seal, to advance a sum of Money not exceeding five hundred pounds currency, for and towards perfecting and keep500 granted ing in repair the said Road of Communication between Saint Joachim and the fecting and Bay Saint Paul, by affording a gratuity not exceeding twenty-five pounds curpair a road of rency, to each one of the eighteen persons who first shall settle themselves on the tion between said Road, at no greater distance from each other than half a league, the said Saint Joachim gratuity payable at two periods, the first to consist of the sum of eighteen pounds. fifteen shillings, currency, when the said persons severally shall have erected.. upon their respective lands a habitable house of at least twenty-feet in length by twenty feet in depth, french measure, with a good barn and stable of twenty feet by twenty feet at least, and cleared, the stumps only excepted, and put under cultivation five acres of land in superficies, the second when the said five acres shall have been covered with a good growth of grass, and two additional acres shall have been cleared as aforesaid, and put under cultivation, the said persons shewing in a satisfactory manner that they have respectively resided, and have held feu et lieu, on their said lands at least one year before the first payment, and two years before the second payment, and that they have kept the Road in repair in front of their respective lands, and in front of the adjacent unconceded lands, not exceeding in all half a league for each person, and the five persons settling. and residing on the three leagues, half-way as nearly as can be ascertained on the said Road, shall in addition to the above be entitled to the further gratuity of ten pounds, currency, three fourths whereof shall be paid at the first period of payment as above prescribed, and the remaining fourth at the second period as aforesaid, the said gratuities payable on a report of experts or other satisfactory evidence, and publicly announced as soon as possible two successive Sundays at the Church doors of the several Parishes in the Counties of Northumberland and Orleans.
