To amend so much of an ACT of the Fifty-fifth Year of His present Majesty, as relates to the Salaries of Clergymen officiating as Chaplains in Houses of Correction.

Note.-The Figures in the Margin denote the number of the Folios in the written Copy.

Whereas by an Act passed in the Fifty-fifth year of Preamble:

His present Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for 55 G. 3. "enlarging the powers of two Acts of His present Majesty, for pro"viding Clergymen to officiate as Chaplains in Gaols and Houses of Correction within England and Wales," it was enacted, "That no Salary to be assigned to any Clergyman for officiating in any House of Correction, should exceed Fifty Pounds a year :"

And whereas it has been found impossible, in divers cases, to provide Clergymen who are fit and willing to undertake the Duties of the said office of Chaplain to Houses of Correction, for so small a Salary: And whereas it is therefore expedient that Powers should be given to the Justices of the Peace in their Quarter Sessions, to assign a larger Salary to Clergymen officiating in such capacity:

Be it Enacted by The KING's Most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT it shall and may be lawful for the Justices of the Peace of the several Counties of England and Wales, in their Quarter Sessions respectively, to assign any larger Salary larger Salary than the said Salary of Fifty Pounds a year, to Clergymen officiating Amount. as Chaplains in Houses of Correction; provided always, that in no case such Salary shall exceed the sum of

To amend and extend an Act, made in the 42d Year of His present MAJESTY, for the Preservation of the Health and Morals of Apprentices, and others, employed in Cotton and other Mills, and Cotton and other Factories.

CRCAS an Act was made in the Forty-second year of Preamble. the reign of His present Majesty, intituled, "An Act for "the Preservation of the Health and Morals of Apprentices, and "others, employed in Cotton and other Mills, and Cotton and other "Factories:"

And whereas the said Act has been found insufficient to answer the Purposes thereby intended, and it is expedient that the same should be altered, extended and amended;

BE it therefore Enacted by the KING's Most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT from and after

the said recited Act and this Act shall extend and be construed to extend to all Cotton Mills, Manufactories or Buildings, in which Cotton Yarn is made, and in which more Persons shall be employed.

And be it further Enacted, That no Male or Female shall be employed in any such Mill, Manufactory or Building, until he or she shall have attained the age of
