the said Apprentice shall not wear his sweeping dress on that day: And that the said shall not nor will compel or oblige the said Apprentice to call the Streets or any other Place before Seven of the clock in the Morning, nor after Twelve of the clock at Noon, between Michaelmas and Lady-day, nor before Five of the clock in the Morning, nor after Twelve of the clock at Noon, between Lady-day and Michaelmas: And that the said shall not nor will, at any time during the said Term, let out his [or, her] said Apprentice for hire, by the day, night or otherwise, to any other Person or Persons exercising or using the said Trade; nor shall the said or any Person or Persons whomsoever, by his [or, her] direction, permit or suffer him the said Apprentice, to climb or go up any Chimney, but shall, in all things, treat his [or, her] said Apprentice with humanity and care. witness, &c. Two of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace, acting in and for the County, Riding, City, Town, Borough Division or Place [as the case may be] having inspected and examined the above-named the Boy to be placed out or assigned over, Do hereby consent to and 14 approve of his being bound [or, assigned over] as an Apprentice to the above-named [the Master or Mistress] according to the Terms and Stipulations expressed in the abovewritten Indenture, For the Suppression of Gaming, and for regulating Note.-The Figures in the Margin denote the Number of the Folios in the written Copy. 2 Ι Tereas the Laws now in force are not sufficient to Preamble. prevent the evil effects of Gaming; it is necessary to make an additional Enactment to meet the circumstances of the case; BE it therefore enacted by the KING's Most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT from and after the any Person keeping a House, Room or Apartment, for the purpose of affording accommodation to play at any Game whatsoever, shall take out a License annually for the same : Provided always, That no License shall be granted unless the Person applying for the same shall obtain a Certificate as to his Character, Householders of the Parish in which he proposes of to keep any such House, Room or Apartment, for the purposes aforesaid. And be it further Enacted, That any Person keeping any such House, Room or Apartment, not having obtained a License for the same, shall pay a Penalty, by information, of A License to be taken out for keeping a House for the purposes of Play. Any Person not having obtained Li cense, shall be liable to a Pounds per day, that he shall keep such House, Room or Apartment, Penalty. for the purposes aforesaid. 17. And No Person keeping any Tavern shall furnish accommodation, And be it further Enacted, That any Person keeping such House Room or Apartment, for the purposes aforesaid, shall not, by himself or his servants, advance any Money for the purposes of Play, under Penalty, by information, of for every Pound so advanced.
