No. 226.

AN ACT

To authorize the construction of a bridge to connect Fort Mifflin, with the main land, and for other purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the secretary of war, on behalf of the government of the United States, be and he is hereby authorized and empowered to cause a bridge to be constructed on the west side of Tinicum island, upon which Fort Mifflin is constructed, for the accommodation of said fort, and so as to connect said island with the main land; and the government of the United States shall have exclusive right to said bridge: Provided, The said shall not be constructed where it will obstruct the navigation of the river Dela

ware.

SECTION 2. That the act approved the sixth day of April, one thou- Widening of Gisand eight hundred and forty-four, entitled "An Act to authorize the rard avenue. narrowing of Girard avenue, in Penn township, in the county of Philadelphia," be corrected and amended, by substituting Penn township, wherever the words district of Spring Garden are used or referred to in the body of said act; and all proceedings under the said law shall be as available as though the said error had not been made.

AN ACT

To change the name of the volunteer corps of Union Rangers, of Bucks county,
and for other purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the style and title of a certain volunteer corps attached to the second brigade, Pennsylvania militia, now called the "Union Rangers," shall hereafter be called the Nockamixon Infantry: Provided, That all acts

done under the former name of the Union Rangers, shall not be affected in any manner by this act: And provided, further, That the said corps shall enjoy all the advantages in point of rank of company and officers, as if this act had not been passed.

First Troop of SECTION 2. Hereafter the First Troop of Montgomery County CavMontgomery alry, be and the same shall be an independent troop of cavalry, subject County Cavalry. to such laws only as relate to independent troops.

AN ACT

To confirm the title to a certain lot of ground situate in the township of Moyamensing, in the county of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, Joseph Dugan, of the city of Philadelphia, did, by indenture dated the fourth day of June, Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and thirty-three, recorded at Philadelphia, in deed book A M, number thirty-seven, page four hundred and seventy-eight, grant and convey unto "The Roman Catholic Society of St. Joseph, for educating and maintaining poor orphan children," their successors and assigns, a certain lot of ground, situate in the township of Moyamensing, and county of Philadelphia, particularly described in the said indenture, together with the appurtenances.

And whereas, By indenture dated the twenty-third day of February, Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and thirty-five, recorded at Philadelphia, in deed book A M, number fifty-two, page six hundred and fifty-four, the said "The Roman Catholic Society of St. Joseph, for educating and maintaining poor orphan children," did grant and convey the said lot of ground, with the appurtenances, unto Isaac Starr, his heirs and assigns.

And whereas, The said Isaac Starr, has, since the said deed last mentioned, granted several parts or portions of the said lot of ground or ground rent, and executed conveyances therefor.

And whereas, It is represented to the legislature that some doubts are entertained respecting the right and power of the said society to hold and convey the said lot of ground; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That

the title of the said Isaac Starr, and of all and every person and persons Title confirmed. lawfully claiming or to claim under him, by purchase, descent, devise or otherwise, to the lot or piece of ground conveyed, as is hereinbefore recited by Joseph Dugan, to "The Roman Catholic Society of St. Joseph, for educating and maintaining poor orphan children," on the fourth day of June, Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and thirty-three, shall be and the same is hereby confirmed and made valid, to the same extent and effect, to all intents and purposes, as if at and before the execution of the said conveyance to them by the said Joseph Dugan, express authority had been given to the said "The Roman Catholic Society of St. Joseph, for educating and maintaining poor orphan children," by act of assembly, to take, purchase, receive and hold, or convey in fee simple or otherwise, the said lot of ground situate in the township of Moyamensing, and county of Philadelphia, with all and singular the appurtenances.

AN ACT

To attach the farm of W. W. Caldwell, in White township, Indiana county, to the borough of Indiana, for school purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the farm belonging to William W. Caldwell, adjoining the borough of Indiana, in White township, Indiana county, be and the same is hereby attached to the said borough of Indiana, for school purposes; and that hereafter the school directors of said borough, shall have authority to levy and collect all school taxes on the farm aforesaid, and be authorized to receive the state appropriation for common schools, to which such farm may be entitled.

AN ACT

To release the claim of the commonwealth from a certain estate of Elizabeth Roney, deceased, daughter of Amy Roney, deceased, in favor of the heirs and legal representatives of said Amy Roney.

WHEREAS, Amy Roney and Elizabeth Roney, sisters, late of Chester county, and now both deceased, were tenants in common, of about one acre and three-fourths, situate in said county, and said Amy's undivided half, by her devise, became vested in her natural daughter, Elizabeth, who, dying intestate and without children, her undivided half, which otherwise would have descended to the heirs and legal representatives, (being the brothers and sisters, and brothers' and sisters' children of the said Amy,) has become liable to be escheated to the commonwealth; and the other undivided half, has vested in the heirs and legal representatives of said Elizabeth, first above named; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Claim released. the claim of the commonwealth is hereby released from all that certain lot of ground containing about one acre and three-fourths, lately owned by Amy Roney and Elizabeth Roney, in the township of New Garden, in the county of Chester; and all the estate, right and title to the same, which was of the said Amy Roney, shall descend to and vest in the heirs and legal representatives of said Amy, to all intents and purposes, as if she had not devised the same to her natural daughter, Elizabeth, since dead, and unmarried and intestate.

AN ACT

Relative to the claims of Hugh and P. M'Ginly, of Northumberland county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the auditor general be and he is hereby authorized and directed to draw his warrant upon the state treasurer, in favor of Hugh and P. M'Ginley, late contractors for the lower towing-path section in the pool of the Muncy dam, West Branch division, Pennsylvania canal, for the amount which may remain due him for retained per centage, not exceeding sixty-five dollars; and the state treasurer is hereby authorized to pay the same out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated. Authorizing the laying out of certain state roads, and for other purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same.
