New York, May 25. Last Saturday Evening departed this Life, Mr. WILLIAM BRADFORD, Printer, of this City, in the 94th Year of his Age: as the Printer of this Paper liv'd upwards of eight Years Apprentice to him, he may be presumed to know something of him: He came to America upwards of 70 years ago, and landed at the Place where Philadelphia now stands, before that City was laid out, or a House built there: He was Printer to this Government upwards of 50 years; and was a Man of great Sobriety and Industry; a real Friend to the Poor and Needy; and kind and affable to all; but acquiring of an Estate happened not to be his Faculty, notwithstanding his being here at a Time, when others, of not half his good Qualifications, amassed considerable Ones : He was a true Englishman, and his Complaisance and Affection to his Wives, of which he had two, was peculiarly great; and without the least Exaggeration it may be said, that what he had acquired with the first, by the same Carriage was lost with the second: His Temperance was exceedingly conspicuous, and he was almost a Stranger to sickness all his Life: He had left off Business for several Years past, and being quite worn out with old Age and Labour, his Lamp of Life went out for want of Oil.— His Remains are to be interr'd this Evening.-New York Gazette, Revived in the Weekly Post Boy, May 25, 1752.

A

New York, June 8. Last Week arrived here via Boston, Capt. ROBERT TROUP, late of the Brig. Hester of this Port; who sailed from hence the 5th. of January last, bound for Jamaica: About 12 Days after he left Sandy Hook, he met with a violent NorthWind, which obliged him to lay too; and on the 21st of January, the Gale ceasing, he found himself close aboard the North Side of Hispaniola, when a stark Calm ensued, and the Vessel was drove ashore by the Violence of the Surff, close under a Cliff, about 15 Leagues to Leeward of Cape Francois; the People with the utmost Difficulty of their Lives, just escaped to Shore, and the Vessel in a few Minutes was dash'd all to Pieces. When they found themselves going ashore, they let go all their Anchors, and used all other Methods possible to save their Vessel, but having so little Command of her, they found themselves obliged to submit. Thus the famous Hester, who, while a Privateer, brought many Frenchmen's Bones against their Wills into New York; was providentially obliged to leave her Bones on a French Coast. -N. Y. Gazette, Revived in the Weekly Post Boy, June 8, 1752.
