STATEMENT OF CONVICTIONS, ACQUITTALS, &c. Had in the Courts of Oyer and Terminer and General Sessions of the Peace, in and for the City and County of New York, From January 1, 1830, to December 31, 1860 (thirty-one years), forty-three persons have been sentenced to be executed, on convictions had in the criminal courts of the county. Of this number, nineteen were executed; the sentences of thirteen were commuted to imprisonment for life; one for the period of ten years; one was pardoned; one committed suicide; in seven cases new trials were ordered (four were subsequently convicted of manslaughter, one was discharged, and two are yet to be tried).
