BLIND MEN AT JERICHO.

38 they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should

hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son 40 of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and com

manded him to be brought unto him: and when he was 41 come near, he asked him, saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive 42 my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: 43 thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw 5 him, and said unto him, Zaccheus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made 6 haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And 7 when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zac- 8 cheus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come 9 to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which 10 was lost.

ARRIVAL AT BETHANY.

And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over 20 five cities. And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here 21 is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst 22 not sow. And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and 23 reaping that I did not sow: wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have 24 required mine own with usury? And he said unto them

that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him 25 that hath ten pounds. (And they said unto him, Lord, he 26 hath ten pounds.) For I say unto you, That unto every

one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. 27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast? Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take

Then took Mary 3an *alabaster box of a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, 5 and she brake the box, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat, 7and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of ointment made? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. (Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor ?) 10 And they murmured against her. "This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. 12 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? 13 Let her alone: 1for she hath wrought a good work upon me against the day of my burying hath she kept this. 16 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. She hath done what she could: "for in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, 18 she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, 19there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was 13 coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. 1And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mat. xxi. 1-6. Mark xi. 1-6. mount called the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus Lu. xix. 29-34. two disciples, saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway, as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her; whereon yet never man sat; loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye, that The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them 10 hither. "All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. And the disciples 12that were sent, went their way, and found even as he had said unto them, 13 the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; 1and as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord hath need of him; even as Jesus had commanded and they let them go.
