Thomas Elston Hamilton, born February 15, 1830; married Jane Hill, 1854. He died, Milford, N. J., October 4, 1877; buried Mt. Peace, Philadelphia. She born May 20, 1830; died July 4, 1890. One child: Adolphus.

ADOLPHUS HAMILTON, born March 21, 1855; married Kate Elizabeth Cramp, December 4, 1878. He died March 22, 1904. She born June 12, 1857. Two children: Frank Albertson, born April 19, 1885, died October 27, 1891; William Swindells, born February 8, 1895.

3. John Norris Vaughan Born December 8, 1808; married Sarah Palmer. Two children: Mary Bryan and Elizabeth Byles.

He died December 24, 1835.

Born May 20, 1813; married Margaret Sorrick Kahmar, August 21, 1836. He died October 1, 1866. She born September 1, 1818; died February 25, 1904. Eight children: Griffith and Rheinhard Kahmar, twins; William Hamilton, Mary Emerick, Joseph Norris, John Norris, Mary Frances, and Robert Burton.

Herman Stout Vaughan was a shipbuilder, of the firm of Vaughan and Fisher, Kensington, Philadelphia, Pa. He built a number of vessels, one, the screw steamer "Peytona," and two Light-vessels for the United States Government

(names not known) during the Civil War, 1861. He was one of the first victims of the Cholera, which, in 1866, raged so disastrously in Philadelphia.

Rheinhard Kahmar Vaughan, born August 22, 1837; married Margaret M. Foster. He died December 10, 1885. She died February 11, 1888. One child: Mary Frances, who died November, 1862, aged 5 years.

Jordan Mathews, born February 7, 1846; married Alice B. Ireland, October, 1869. No children. He was a Private, Company F, 52nd Pennsylvania Regiment, in the Civil War of 1861.

Three children: Sarah Ann, born January 8, 1841; William M., born May 7, 1844; Jacob, Jr., born July 24, 1846, and, with his mother, died the same day; both buried at Palmer Cemetery, Kensington, Philadelphia.

WASHINGTON VAN DUSEN, married first, Clara Virginia Oliver, January 20, 1893. She died March 3, 1897. Two children: Elaine Remington, born October 4, 1893, died September 22, 1895; Jessie Oliver, born August 2, 1895.

Angeline Hamilton West, born April 19, 1838; married Harrison McManus, June 19, 1863. He born April 27, 1832; died February 18, 1879. No children. George Washington West, born January 17, 1843; married Mary Surrick, August 31, 1872. Two children: George Washington, born 1873; John Hood, born January 20, 1876.

George Washington West enlisted as a private in the 95th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, January 18, 1864, and was mustered out July 17, 1865. He was in the following battles: Wilderness, Spottsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, and Appomattox (where Lee surrendered), and in several smaller engagements.

Emma Price West, born December 3, 1849; married Joseph Charles Rowland, July 18, 1867. He born February 22, 1847; died August 28, 1877. Three children: Emma, Leonore and Howard-all died.

2. Jacob Keen Vaughan

Born December 26, 1812; married Matilda M., daughter of Alexander Alan Ramsay, M.D., of Norristown, Pa., May 14, 1835. He died May 10, 1886. She born February 11, 1817; died March 18, 1888. Eight children: John Alexander, died; Horace Binney, Jacob Keen, Jr. and Matilda Ramsay, twins; Anne Maria, Caroline Brognard, John Alexander, 2nd, and Emeline Brown.

Jacob Keen Vaughan, the only son of John Vaughan, was educated at an Academy in Philadelphia, conducted by the Reverend William Mann, who was a prominent educator, and also a member of the Methodist Episcopal Conference, of that city. After acquiring a thorough English education, in which he had especially devoted himself to mathematics and drawing, Mr. Vaughan left school and prepared himself for an active business career. Having a talent for draughtsmanship, his father believed that he would become a valuable assistant to him in his business, and admitted him to partnership in the year 1833, at the time of his maturity. After the death of the senior member of the firm, the business was continued under the firm name of Vaughan and Lynn, for some years, at Palmer Street Wharf, Kensington, Philadelphia. In the year 1857 the firm became insolvent, being among the unfortunates of the great financial crisis of that year, which overspread the country, and eventually extended, in some degree, to the principal commercial centres of Europe.
