PREFACE.

Y the kind providence of God we are spared to complete another volume of our Connexional Magazine. Our aim has been to supply reading of an interesting and useful kind to those who favour our pages with a perusal. These we have to seek not so much in the public at large, as amongst those who belong to the denomination whose name the Magazine bears. To the members of the Methodist New Connexion we trust the articles we have, by the aid of kind contributors, been able to supply from month to month have not been unacceptable. True, we are precluded from presenting our literature in the form which has become the most fascinating to even religious readers. Still to those who give attendance to reading for the sake of mental and spiritual improvement, we trust the contents of this volume will not be altogether unappreciated.

Perhaps a taste and love for reading were never more widely diffused than at the present day; but we fear the necessary caution, Take heed what you read, was never more disregarded than now. Α deal of the literature which finds its way into our families is far from being healthy in its influence. Hence, the Press may be regarded as the great propagator of the ideas of unbelief and secularism. Our object is, though not always in a controversial form, to contend intelligently as well as earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints.

We again present our thankful acknowledgment to those contributors who have rendered us essential aid in the fulfilment of our duties.

December 1st, 1878.

THE EDITOR.
