Psalm 1., 1, 3, 6, 15.

506 THE Lord, even the most mighty God, hath spoken, and called the world, from the rising up of the sun, unto the going down thereof. The heavens shall declare His righteousness: for God is Judge Himself. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: there shall go before Him a consuming fire, and a mighty tempest shall be stirred up round about Him. Call upon God in the time of trouble: so will He hear thee, and thou shalt praise Him.

507 old Edtn. 498.

Psalm 1., 1-6, 14, 15, §c.

THE Lord, even the most mighty God hath spoken, and called the world from the rising up of the sun, unto the going down thereof. Out of Sion hath God appeared in perfect beauty. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence. There shall go before Him a consuming fire, and a mighty tempest shall be stirred up round about Him. He shall call the heaven from above, and the earth that He may judge His people. And the heavens shall declare His righteousness, for God is Judge Himself. Gather my saints together unto me, those that have made a covenant with me with sacrifice. Offer unto God thanksgiving, and pay thy vows unto the most Highest. And call upon me in the time of trouble, so will I hear thee, and thou shalt praise me. Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, good-will towards men. We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Thee, we glorify Thee, we give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory, O Lord God heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

511

Psalm cxxxii., 13, 14, 16.

THE Lord hath chosen Zion; He hath desired it for His habitation. This is my rest for ever, here will I dwell; for I have desired it. I will also clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

THE Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

THE Lord hear thee in the day of trouble: the name of the God of Jacob defend thee. Send thee help from the sanctuary; and strengthen thee out of Sion. Remember all thy offerings; and accept thy burnt-sacrifice. Grant thee thy heart's desire; and fulfil all thy mind.

Psalm cii., 8, 9, 13, 19, 20, 21.

THE Lord is full of compassion and mercy, long suffering, and of great goodness. He will not alway be chiding, neither keepeth He His anger for ever. Yea, like as a father pitieth his own children, even so is the Lord merciful unto them that fear Him. The Lord hath prepared His seat in heaven, and His kingdom ruleth over all. O praise the Lord, ye angels of His, ye that excel in strength, ye that

fulfil His commandments, and hearken unto the voice of His words. O praise the Lord all ye His hosts, ye servants of His that do His pleasure. Hallelujah. Amen.

Psalm ciii., 8, 9, 13, 14, &c.

THE Lord is full of compassion and mercy, long-suffering, and of great goodness. He will not alway be chiding, neither keepeth He His anger for ever. Yea, like as a father pitieth his own children, even so is the Lord merciful unto them that fear Him; for He knoweth whereof we are made, He remembereth that we are but dust. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting and world without end. Amen.

THE Lord is good, fresh acts of grace
His pity still supplies;

His anger moves with slowest pace,
His willing mercy flies.

By angels in heaven
Of every degree,
And saints upon earth,
All praise be addrest:
To God in three persons
One God ever blest,
As it has been, now is,
And always shall be.

Therefore will we the righteous ways,

Of Providence proclaim,

Will sing the praise of God most high,
And celebrate His name.

517 Old Edtn. 496.

THE Lord is King, the earth may be glad thereof: yea' the multitude of the isles may be glad thereof. Clouds and darkness are round about Him; righteousness and judgment are the habitation of His seat. His lightnings gave shine unto the world: the earth saw it, and was afraid. The hills melted like wax before the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens have declared his righteousness, and all the people have seen His glory.

520

Psalm xciii., 1. Jeremiah xlvii., 6. Psalm xx,, 7;

cxvlii., 14; xlvi., 9; cvii., 31, 32.

THE Lord is King, be the people never so impatient; He sitteth between the Cherubims, be the earth never so unquiet. O thou sword of the Lord, put up thyself into the scabbard, rest and be still. Some put their trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God. He maketh peace in our borders; and causeth wars to cease in all the world. O that men would therefore praise the Lord for His goodness and declare the wonders that He doeth for the children of men. That they would exalt Him also in the congregation of the people: and praise Him in the seat of the elders. Hallelujah.

THE Lord is King; and hath put on glorious apparel; the Lord hath put on His apparel and girded Himself with strength. He hath made the round world so sure that it cannot be moved. Ever since the world began hath Thy seat been prepared; Thou art from everlasting. The floods are risen, O Lord, the floods have lift up their voice, the floods lift up their waves. The waves of the sea are mighty and rage horribly; but yet the Lord who dwelleth on high is mightier. Thy testimonies, O Lord, are ever sure. Holiness becometh Thine house for ever. Amen.

522 old Edtn. 497.

Psalm xcix., 1, 2, 3.

THE Lord is King, be the people never so impatient; He

sitteth between the Cherubims, be the earth never so unquiet. The Lord is great in Sion, and high above all people. They shall give thanks unto Thy name, which is great, and wonderful, and holy. Hallelujah.

523

Psalm cxlv. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13.

THE Lord is loving unto every man: and His mercy is over all His works. All Thy works praise Thee, O Lord; and Thy saints give thanks unto Thee. They shew the glory of Thy Kingdom: and talk of Thy power; that Thy power, Thy glory, and mightiness of Thy kingdom; might be known unto men. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom: and Thy law is the truth. Amen.

524 Psalm xxvii., 1, 3, 4, 7; xviii., 31, 7, 13, 14; &c.

THE Lord is my light, and my salvation; whom then shall I fear the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid. Though a host of men where laid against me: yet shall my heart not be afraid; though there rose up war against me, yet will I put my trust in Him. One Thing have I desired of the Lord which I will require; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the fair beauty of the Lord, and to visit His temple. I will offer in His dwelling an oblation with great gladness: I will sing, and speak praises unto the Lord. For who is God, but the Lord; or who hath any strength, except the Lord? The earth trembled and quaked, the very foundations also of the hills shook, and were removed, He cast forth lightnings, and gave His thunder, and destroyed them. They are brought down, and fallen: but we are risen. O praise the Lord with me: and let us magnify His name together. The Lord is my strength and my shield, my heart hath trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart danceth for joy, and in my song will I praise Him. It is the Lord, that ruleth the sea: the Lord sitteth above the water flood; and the Lord remaineth a King for ever. Sing praises unto the Lord, O ye saints of His: and give thanks unto Him for a remembrance of His holiness. I will remember Thy Name from one generation to another: therefore shall the people give thanks unto Thee, world without end. Amen.
