I

Do not propose, under this head, to infert the various Complaints that are used in criminal matters; they would make the book too large. A general form, therefore mult fuffice; but I think a few of a civil nature will be acceptable.

I. TO JUSTICES OF THE PEACE.

General Form in Criminal Cafes.

OMPLAINS upon oath A. B. of, &c. in faid C. That C. D. &c. [Here fet forth the name and place of abode of the party offending, and let the offence be "fully and plainly, fubftantially and formally defcribed," and the time and place, when and where it was committed] which (or all which) is contrary to law, and against the peace of the Commonwealth-or, (if it be against a particular fiatute, fay) against the peace and dignity of the commonwealth, and a law of the fame, entitled "An act, entitled," &c. (and it may conclude,) Wherefore the faid A. B. prays that the faid C. D. may be apprehended and held to answer to faid complaint, and dealt with relative to the fame, as to law and juf tice fhall appertain. Dated, &c. 'A. B.

OMPLAINS A. B. of, &c. that C. D. of, &c. on the figned and fealed a deed conveying to him, in fee fimple (fee tail-for term of life—or lease for more than seven years, as the cafe may be.) [Here the premifes may be generally defcribed.] Which deed the faid C. D. hath refufed, and ftill doth refufe to acknowledge before a Justice of the Peace. He therefore requests that you would iffue a fummons to the faid C. D. to appear be fore you, to hear the teftimony of the fubfcribing witneffes thereunto, and that fuch other proceedings may be had there. on as the law in such cases directs. Dated, &c. A. B.

Complaint of a Mafter whofe Apprentice or Servant bath eloped.

To S. T. Efq. one of the Justices of the Peace within and for the county of C.

COMPLAINS upon oath A. B: of, &c. That C. D.. who hath been legally bound to him as an apprentice (or fervant) hath eloped from him contrary to law, and against the peace of the Commonwealth. He therefore prays that a warrant may be iffued for apprehending the faid C. D. and that he may be returned to your complainant or first sent to the house of correction, as, by a law of the Commonwealth, you fhall judge proper to direct. Dated, Sc.

The following, although fimilar to the foregoing, is more particularly adapted to a law of the Commonwealth of Maffachufetts, paffed Feb. 28, 1795.
