DAVID SLAYING GOLIAH.

The scene of Goliah's death is painted in two different ways upon the two sides of a slate, as we have already remarked at no 75.

The picture was given to the king by Nicholas Giudice, clerk of the apostolical court, and afterwards cardinal. It was presented to Louis XIV the 25th july 1715, a month before that great monarch's death, and it was doubtless at that time attributed to Michael Angelo to enhance its valour.

An engraving of this picture was made by Benoît Audran, which is in the collection known by the name of the Crozat cabinet.

Height, 5 feet 8 inches; breadth, 4 feet 4 inches.
