Four Directors

MINISTERIAL FUND IN POLAND.

SECT. 5. Be it further enacted, That the President and to be a quorum. three of the Directors, or four of the Directors in the absence of the President, shall be a board competent for the transaction of business; and all questions before them shall be decided by a majority of votes; and they shall have power to make and prescribe such by-laws, rules and regulations, as to them shall appear needful and proper, touching the management and disposition of the stock, property, estate and effects of said Company, and the transfer of shares, and touching the duties and conduct of the several officers, clerks and servants employed, and the election of Directors and all such matters as appertain to the business of Insurance; and shall also have the power to appoint a Secretary and so many Clerks and servants for carrying on the said business, and with such salaries and allowances to them and the President, as to the said Board shall seem meet; provided that such bylaws and regulations shall not be repugnant to the laws of this State.

SECT. 6. Be it further enacted, That any three of the First meeting. persons herein named, be, and they are hereby empowered to call a meeting of the members of said Company as soon as may be, in Portland by advertising the same fourteen days in both the newspapers printed in said town, for the purpose of electing the first board of Directors, who shall continue in office until the first Monday in January, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-two.

CHAPTER LXVII.

AN ACT to establish a Fund for the support of the Ministry in the town of Poland, and to authorise the sale of certain lands therein.

SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, That John Cousins, Persons incorpo- Wentworth Ricker, David Harris, William Dunn, and Joshua Buck and their successors, be, and they hereby are incorporated into a body politic by the name of the trustees of the Poland Ministerial Fund; with power to sue and be sued; to have a common seal and to change the same; and with all other powers and privileges which are incident to like corporations; to choose all necessary officers to carry the design of the corporation into effect and make and adopt all requisite rules, and by-laws for the management of their affairs not repugnant to the laws of this State.

SECT. 2. SECT. 3. Be it further enacted, That the said trustees Trustees to elect and their successors in office, shall annually in the month of March or April, from among their number, elect by ballot, a President, and also a clerk to record the doings of the trustees, who shall be sworn to the faithful discharge of his duty, and a treasurer to receive and apply the monies belonging to said funds according to the direction of the trustees, and as enjoined by this act, who shall give bonds to the satisfaction of the trustees for the faithful performance of his duty, and he shall at all times be responsible for the faithful application and expenditure of the monies that may come into his hands, and for negligence or misconduct of any kind in his said office, conformable to the true intent and meaning of this act.

SECT. 4. SECT. 5. Be it further enacted, That the funds arising and the monoy from the sale of said lands or by donation or gift, shall be loaned on interest, the prompt and faithful payment of which shall always be guaranteed by good and sufficient surety or sureties to the satisfaction of the said trustees, or by mortgage of real estate double in value to the sum loaned, one half of the said interest shall be added annually to the principal and incorporated therewith, till the said fund shall amount to three thousand dollars; and the other half of the said interest, shall be appropriated to the support of the ministry in said town, or to be added to, and incorporated with the principal of said fund, as the inhabitants of said town shall in legal town meeting assembled, direct and order from time to time.

SECT. 1. CHAPTER LXIX

AN ACT to incorporate the Proprietors of Ticonic Bridge.

SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, That Nathaniel Persons incor- Gilman, Asa Redington, Abijah Smith, Hall Chase, Nehemiah Getchel, Jediah Morrell, James Hasty, Simeon Matthews, Moses Appleton, James Stackpole, jun. and Johnson Williams, with their associates, be, and they hereby are incorporated into a body politic by the name of the Proprietors of the Ticonic Bridge, and for the purpose of erecting and keeping in repair a bridge over the Kennebec river; with power to sue and be sued; to have a common seal and to change the same; to make any by-laws for the management of their affairs not repugnant to the laws of this State; and may enjoy all the powers and privileges incident and belonging to similar corporations; and may at any meeting choose a clerk who shall be sworn to the faithful discharge of the duties of his office and any other officers they may deem necessary for managing the business of said corporation, by a vote of the majority of the members present, allowing one vote to each share: Provided, No proprietor shall be entitled to more than ten votes.

Be it further enacted, That a toll be, and hereby is granted for the sole benefit of said corporation according to the rates following: viz. for each foot passenger, two cents; one person and horse, twelve and one half cents; for a single horse cart or waggon, sled or sleigh, sixteen cents; for each wheelbarrow or hand cart and person five cents; for each team, including cart or sleigh drawn by more than one beast, and not exceeding four beasts, twenty cents; for each additional beast above four, four cents each; for any single horse and chaise, chair, or sulkey, twenty five cents; for each coach, chariot, phaeton, or curricle, thirty seven cents; for neat cattle or horses, exclusive of those rode on, or in teams or carriages, three cents each; for sheep and swine, one cent each; and in all cases the same toll shall be paid for all carriages passing said bridge, whether the same be loaded or not; and to each team one person and no more shall be allowed as a driver to pass free of toll; and said toll shall for thirty years. commence at the day of the first opening of the said bridge
