READFIELD RELIGIOUS CHARITABLE SOCIETY.

by number six, east by Robbinston, south by Dennysville, and west by number fourteen and number fifteen, with the inhabitants thereof, be, and they are hereby incorporated into a town by the name of Charlotte. And the inhabitants of said town are hereby vested with all the powers, privileges and immunities, which the inhabitants of towns within this State do or may by law enjoy.

Boundaries.

First meeting.

SECT. 2. Be it further enacted, That any Justice of the Peace, within said County, is hereby empowered to issue his warrant to some inhabitant of said town, directing him to notify the inhabitants thereof, to meet at such time and place as he shall appoint, to choose such officers as other towns Powers. are empowered to choose at their annual town meetings.

Town to vote

SECT. 3. Be it further enacted, That the said town of Charlotte shall be entitled to vote in the choice of a Representative to the Legislature of in the this State, in the same class and in the same man- class, &c. ner, as it was allowed and authorized to do previous to the passing of this act; and shall continue a part of the class aforesaid, until otherwise provided by law.

CHAPTER CCXCI.

AN ACT additional to an Act to incorporate the Trustees of the
Readfield Religious and Charitable Society.

SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in Legislature assembled, That, from and after the passing of this Act, the name of Name changed the Trustees of the Readfield Religious and Charitable Society shall cease, and the said Corporation shall be known by the name of the Trustees of the Maine Wesleyan Seminary.

SECT. 2. Be it further enacted, That the number of the Trustees of said Corporation shall be enlarged to twenty five, exclusive of the additional Trustees en Trustees provided for in the fifth section of the larged, &

Act to which this is additional: five of whom shall constitute a quorum for doing business. The Board of Trustees may be kept full or not at the discretion of the Trustees for the time being; and persons residing in any part of the State, shall be eligible to the office of Trustee.

SECT. 3. Be it further enacted, That so much of the second section of the Act to which is additional Part of former as provides that the Trustees shall be elected from act repealed. the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, be, and the same is hereby repealed.

Powers restricted.

SECT. 4. Be it further enacted, That the powers granted by this Act, may be enlarged, restrained or repealed, at the pleasure of the Legislature. [This Act passed January 20, 1825.]

CHAPTER CCXCII.

AN ACT to incorporate the Gardiner Iron Manufacturing Company.

SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in Legislature assembled, That Robert Hallowell Gardiner, Samuel G. Ladd, John Stone, and Dudley Ladd, and such others as may hereafter be associated with them, their successors, and assigns, be, and they are hereby made a body politic by the name of the Gardiner Iron Manufacturing Company, for the purpose of casting and manufacturing iron in the town of Gardiner, an for this purpose shall have all the powers and priviPowers, &c. leges, and be subject to all the duties and requirements expressed in an Act, entitled "An Act defining the general powers and duties of Manufacturing Corporations," passed the eighth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, and in an Act additional thereto, passed the fifth day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three.

CHAPTER CCXCIII.

AN ACT to incorporate the South Berwick Manufacturing Company.

SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in Legislature assembled, That Thomas Leigh, and such other persons as shall as- Persons incorsociate with him, and their successors and assigns, porated. shall be, and they hereby are constituted and made a corporation, by the name of the South Berwick Manufacturing Company; and are hereby empowered to carry on the manufacture of woolen, cotton and such other branches of manufacture as can conveniently be carried on by such corporation, at Great Works River, in the County of York; and for this purpose shall have all the powers and privileges, and be subject to all the duties and requisitions contained in an Act, passed on the eighth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, entitled "An Act defining the general powers and duties of Manufacturing Corporations ;" and in an Act, entitled "An Act additional to an Act defining the general powers and duties of Manufacturing Corporations," passed the fifth day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three.

SECT. 2. Be it further enacted, That said Corporation may purchase, take, and hold real and personal estate of what kind or nature soever, to an amount not exceeding at any one time one hundred tate, &c. thousand dollars; and may sell and dispose of the same at pleasure; and may erect on the real estate, so to be purchased and held, such dams, mills, works, machines and buildings as shall be necessary or useful in carrying on the manufactures and conducting the business of said corporation.

CHAPTER CCXCIV.

AN ACT to incorporate the town of Franklin.

SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in Legislature assembled, That the part of Plantation number eight and nine, in the County of Hancock, within the following described limits, to wit: beginning on the south line of Boundaries. township number eight, middle division of the lottery townships, where the line called the French lines crosses the same; thence running north by said line, to the termination thereof; thence continuing the same course to the north line of said number eight; thence east, following the township lines of numbers eight and nine, six miles; thence south, and parallel to the first described line, six miles, to the township line of number nine, being the line between said number nine and Sullivan; thence west on the said township lines of number nine and eight to the place beginning, with the inhabitants thereof, be, and they are hereby incorporated into a town by the name of Franklin. And the inhabitants of said town are hereby vested with all the powers, privileges, and immunities, which the inhabitants of towns within this State, do or may by law enjoy.

TEMPLE LODGE.-WATERVILLE COLLEGE.

CHAPTER CCXCV.

AN ACT to incorporate Temple Lodge.

SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in Legislature assembled, That

Judkins, and John Hamilton, their associates and successors, be, and they hereby are incorporated into a body politic, by the name of Temple Lodge; with power to prosecute Powers, &c. and defend suits at law; to have a common seal, and to change the same; to make any by-laws for the management of their affairs, not repugnant to the laws of the State; to take and hold, for chari- May hold estable and benevolent uses, any real estate to the tate, &c. value of three thousand dollars, and any personal estate to the value of five thousand dollars; and to give and grant, or bargain and sell the same; and with all the privileges usually granted to other societies instituted for purposes of charity and benefi

cence.

Be it further enacted, That the first meeting of said Corporation shall be held at such time and place, and notified in such manner, as a majority of the persons named in this Act may direct. And the powers granted by this Act may be Powers reenlarged, restrained, or repealed, at the pleasure of stricted. the Legislature.

CHAPTER CCXCVI.

AN ACT for the benefit of Waterville College.

BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in Legislature assembled, That there be $1000 annualgranted to Waterville College the sum of one ly for 3 years. thousand dollars annually, to be paid in equal semi-annual payments for the term of three years from the first day of April next.
