CHAPTER 124.

Incorporation.

Objects and
Powers.

An Act to Incorporate The Dominion No. 6, Worker's
Educational Association.

(Passed the 23rd day of April, A. D., 1923).

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:-

1. John Stubbert, Miner; John McSween, Miner; N. J. McDonald, Miner; Duncan McVicar, Miner; Harold Ley, Miner; John Brann, Miner; Johnathan Killoway, Miner; John McLeod, Miner; William Clark, Miner; W. A. McGregor, Miner; George Andrew, Miner; and John W. McLeod, Miner; all of Dominion No. 6, in the County of Cape Breton, Province of Nova Scotia, and all such other persons as are or hereafter shall be come members of Local Union No. 4536 of the United Mine Workers of America, of Dominion No. 6, while in good standing in said Local, are hereby constituted a body corporate under the name of "Dominion No. 6, Worker's Educational Association."

2. The objects and purposes of the Association shall embrace the following:

(a) the erection or purchase and equipment of such buildings as shall be deemed necessary for the purposes of the Local Union No. 4536 of Dominion No. 6;

(b) the fitting up and equipment of its buildings as a convenient Assembly Room and Meeting Place for any or all social, benevolent, fraternal or charitable societies or associations, or any other meeting in Dominion No. 6;

(c) by opening reading rooms, well supplied with good literature, by promoting education among the workers of Dominion No. 6, by procuring public lecturers for lectures to be given in Dominion No. 6, and by every other proper and lawful means to aid in the advancement of learning, the dissemination of useful knowledge and

4. 7. No director, officer or member of the Associa- No personal tion shall be personally liable for any of its debts, liabilities or obligations, unless he shall have become surety for the Association, or otherwise assume any of its debts, liabilities or obligations.

8. The Association shall have power and authority By-laws, rules to make, alter, amend and repeal by-laws relating and regulatto its objects, purposes and aims, and for the conduct and management of its affairs, and for any purpose incidental thereto, and the by-laws made in accordance with this Act, and not contrary to any laws of the Province of Nova Scotia shall, when approved by the Governor-in-Council, have the force and effect of law until repealed.

9. The Association shall have a Board of Directtive Committee ors consisting of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and six others, all of whom shall be elected annually or whenever a vacancy occurs, by the Association. The directors shall also constitute the Executive Committee, and of this committee five shall be a quorum, and such Board of Directors or Executive Committee shall have the direct and immediate control of the business of the Association, subject to this Act and by-laws to be made hereunder.

10. The first general meeting of the Association, shall be held after the passing of this Act at such time and place as the President of Local Union No. 4536, Dominion No. 6, shall determine, and notice of such meeting shall be published for at least four consecutive days by posting notices in the Club Room of the Association at Dominion No. 6. Such meeting may be adjourned from day to day, as may be deemed advisable, until all the business has been dealt with.

11. There shall be general meeting of the Association (which may be called the annual meeting) on the second Wednesday of May of each year. At such general meeting the officers shall submit their reports covering their terms of office up to the 30th day of April preceding the meeting.

CHAPTER 125.

An Act Relating to the Dunmore Mutual Telephone
Company, Limited.

(Passed the 23rd day of April, A. D., 1923).

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

CHAPTER 126.

An Act to Empower a Committee of Equity Lodge of the Provincial Workmen's Association to

Sell Lands Held in Trust.

(Passed the 23rd day of April, A. D., 1923).

WHEREAS, in and by virtue of Chapter 119, Acts of Nova Scotia, 1918, all the real and personal property and assets of every description and interest therein of the Grand Council of the Provincial Workmen's Association and of each of the said subordinate lodges were vested in John Moffatt of Dominion as Trustee;

And Whereas, the said John Moffatt as Trustee has assigned and transferred the real property of subordinate Lodge "Equity" of the Provincial Workmen's Association to a Committee of three (3) members of the said subordinate Lodge, namely: Ronald McInnis, William Chisholm, and Michael McNeil, who were members in good standing in said Lodge on the 2nd day of July, 1917, and for six (6) months prior thereto, in trust for the welfare of the locality in which the said property is situated;

And Whereas, the said Committee in order to carry out the said trust has consented to sell all the said real property:

Be it therefore enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

Disposition of proceeas.

2. The proceeds of the sale of the said property shall be divided share and share alike between the St. Joseph's Hospital and the Glace Bay General Hospital, being two Hospitals in which residents of the community where the said property is situate receive hospital treatment.
