first payment into such sinking fund, shall be made within one year from the date of the debentures.

3. Every sum required for

(a) interest on such debentures,

(b) the sinking fund so provided,

shall be held to be sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the town, and shall be raised, levied and collected in the same manner and in all respects as other sums required for the ordinary purposes of the town are raised, levied and collected.

4. This Act shall not take effect until the same is Ratepayers approval necessadopted by resolution passed at a meeting of the ary. ratepayers of the Town of Glace Bay duly convened in accordance with the provisions of Sections 143 and 144 of the Towns' Incorporation Act.

5. A certificate under the hand of the Mayor Certificate. and Town Clerk, and under the corporate seal of the Town of Glace Bay, of a resolution passed under the said Towns' Incorporation Act, shall be conclusive evidence of the passing of the said resolution, and of the adoption of this Act..

6. Sub-section (c) of Section 1 of Chapter 80 of the s. 1. c., Sec. 1, Acts of 1909 be and the same is hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 77.

An Act to Amend the Assessment Act, as far as the
Town of Glace Bay is concerned.

(Passed the 23rd day of April, A. D., 1928).

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

That in so far as the Town of Glace Bay is concerned, Chapter 5 of the Acts of 1918, "The Assessment Act" is amended as follows:

1. That Section 19 of the said Chapter be amended by repealing the first three lines thereof, and substituting therefor the following:

In the Town of Glace Bay, the Chief Assessor shall forthwith on the completion of the assessment roll give notice of the assessment by:

2. Section 47 of said Chapter is amended by striking out the word "Clerk" in the 8th line thereof, and substituting therefor the words, "Chief Assessor.'

3. Section 49 of said Chapter be amended by striking out the word "Clerk" in the sixth line thereof, and substituting therefor the words, "Chief Assessor."

4. That form E in the second schedule to the said Chapter be amended by striking out the words, "office of town clerk and treasurer" in the second line thereof, and substituting the words "office of Chief Assessor," and by striking out the words "the undersigned" in the sixth, twelfth and nineteenth lines thereof, and by substituting for the words "Town Clerk" at the end of said notice the words, "Chief Assessor."

5. That form F of the second schedule to said Act be amended by substituting for the words, "Town Clerk" at the end of said form the words, “Chief Assessor."

CHAPTER 78.

An Act to Enable the Town of Hantsport to Borrow
Money for Electric Plant, Power and Light-
ing Purposes.

(Passed the 17th dayof April, A. D., 1923).

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. The Town of Hantsport is hereby authorized Authority to to borrow or raise on the credit of the Town the sum of six thousand two hundred dollars ($6,200.00) for the purpose of paying indebtedness already incurred by the said town for expenditures made in connection with the extension and improvement of the Electric Light and Power System of the said Town of Hantsport and of further improving and extending the said Electric Light and Power System.

2. Where any money is borrowed by the issue or Sinking fund. sale of debentures of the said Town under this Act and the Municipal Debentures Act, 1914, as amended, the Council of the said Town shall provide for a sinking fund with respect to such debentures. The amount to be paid annually into the sinking fund shall not be less than two per centum of the aggregate amount of said debentures and shall not be more than the Council deems sufficient to provide for the payment of the debentures when the same are payable, and the first payment into such sinking fund shall be made within one year from the date of the debentures.

3. Every sum required for—

(a) interest on such debentures,

(b) the sinking fund so provided,

shall be held to be sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the Town and shall be raised, levied and collected in the same manner and in all respects as other sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the town are raised, levied and collected.

Ratepayers' 5. Inasmuch as the ratepayers of the Town of Hantsport have in manner as by law provided already approved of and authorized the borrowing of the said sum of six thousand two hundred dollars, it shall not be necessary to convene any additional meeting of the ratepayers as a condition precedent to the borrowing of the said money or any part thereof, or the issuing of the said debentures or of doing any matter or thing by this Act authorized.

CHAPTER 79.

An Act Respecting Poll Tax in the Town of Joggins.

(Passed the 6th day of April, A. D., 1923).

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. In the Town of Joggins an annual poll tax of two dollars shall be levied upon every male resident of the town between the ages of eighteen and sixty years; provided, however, that the Council of said town may by by-law fix the poll tax for such male residents as are not rated upon real or personal property within the town to an amount not exceeding two hundred dollars, at any sum not less than two dollars, nor more than eight dollars.

2. Sub-section (1), Section 6, of Chapter 5, Acts of 1918, shall not apply to the Town of Joggins.

CHAPTER 80.

An Act to Authorize the Town of Kentville to Borrow Money for the Purpose of Constructing additional Sewers.

(Passed the 17th day of April, A. D., 1923).

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. The Town of Kentville is authorized to borrow Authority to borrow $6,500. or raise by way of loan on the credit of the Town the sum of five thousand five hundred dollars for the purpose of constructing, as the Council of the said town from time to time determines, additional sewers in the sewerage district of the Town of Kentville, as that district is now or may be hereafter constituted.

2. For the purposes of Sections 33 and 35 of Debenture Chapter 137 of the Acts of 1903, entitled "An Act Re- Ch. 187, Acts lating to Sewerage in the Town of Kentville," as amended:

(a) money borrowed or raised by the issue and sale of debentures under this Act, and the Municipal Debentures Act, 1914 as amended, and

(b) such debentures,

shall be deemed to have been borrowed and issued respectively under the provisions of said Chapter 137 as amended.
