The Honorable the Speaker acquainted the House, that his Warrant for the appointment of Members to serve on the General Committee of Elections, was upon the Table.

The Honorable the Speaker presented to the House, a communication from Samuel Thompson, on the subject of publishing a daily sheet containing a report of the Debates in Parliament.

The Honorable the Speaker presented to the House, a Return of the distribution of the Consolidated Statutes which relate exclusively to Upper Canada, in the English language; and of the Statutes which relate to the whole Province, in the English and French languages. And also, certain Municipal Returns for Lower Canada.

The Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet acquainted the House, that he had a Message from His Excellency the Governor General, under his Sign Manual, which His Excellency had commanded him to deliver to this House.

The Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet presented to the House, a Bill intituled "An Act to provide for the Election of the Speaker of the Legislative Council."

The said Bill was read for the first time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a second time on Monday next.

The Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet moved, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Knowlton,

That the Honorable Messieurs. Simpson, Mills, Murney, Alexander, Campbell, Masson, Archambault, Hollis Smith, Armstrong and Panet, be appointed a Committee, to act on behalf of this House as Members of a Joint Committee of both Houses, on the subject of the Legislative Printing, and to unite with the Members of the Legislative Assembly named for that purpose, by the Resolution of which, a copy is contained in the Message on that subject, received from that House on Monday last.

The question of concurrence being put thereon, the same was resolved in the affirmative, and it was

Ordered, That the said Resolution be communicated to the Legislative Assembly by one of the Masters in Chancery.

The Honorable Mr. Prince presented to the House a Bill intituled "An Act to make further provision for the safety of Passengers by Steamboats."

The said Bill was read for the first time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a second time this day week.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Campbell, seconded by the Honorable Mr. de Blaquière, it was

Ordered, That the Honorable Messieurs Simpson and Morris be added to the Standing Committee on Banking and Banking Institutions.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Knowlton, it was

Ordered, That the Honorable Members appointed this day to act on behalf of this House as members of the Joint Committee of both Houses on the subject of the Legislative Printing, be also appointed a Select Committee to superintend the Printing of this House.

The Honorable Mr. Alexander, from the Select Committee, to whom was referred the Bill intituled "An Act to restrain Municipalities from issuing Debentures beyond a certain amount," reported that they had gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same with several amendments, which he was ready to submit whenever the House would be pleased to receive them.

Ordered, That the Report be now received, and

The said amendments were then read by the Clerk.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Alexander, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Campbell, it was

Ordered, That the said amendments be taken into consideration by the House to-morrow.
