Of Mr. Dawson's Report, there are 1097 copies of the French edition in the hands of Mr. Lovell, and 400 of the same in the hands of Mr. Spink; total, 1497. It is recommended that 392 of these be kept as stock in hand, and that 17 copies be sent to each of the 40 French Members of the Legislative Assembly, and the 25 French Members of the Legislative Council.

Of the same Report, there are 600 copies of the English edition in the hands of Mr. Spink. It is recommended to hold 300 of these as stock, and send 6 copies to each of the 50 English Members of the Legislative Council.

Of Professor Hinds' Report, there are 1926 copies of the English edition in the hands of Mr. Lovell, and 78 in the hands of Mr. Spink; 324 of these are to be kept on hand, and 12 copies to be sent to cach of the 90 English Members of the Legislative Assembly, and the 50 English Members of the Legislative Council.

Of the same Report, there are 1552 French copies in the hands of Mr. Lovell; 252 of these are to be kept on hand, and 20 copies to be sent to cach of the 40 French Members of the Legislative Assembly, and the 25 French Members of the Legislative Council.

The copies for the Members of the Legislature to be sent to their destination direct from Mr. Lovell's establishment, through the Post-office, under the directions of the Clerk of this Committee. Mr. Spink to keep the record, and to hold the stock remaining.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day, the Bill intituled "An Act respecting certain Duties "of Customs," was read a third time.

The question was put, whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk do go down to the Legislative Assembly, and acquaint that House that the Legislative Council have passed this Bill, without any amendment.

A Message was brought from the Legislative Assembly, by their Clerk, with a Bill intituled "An Act concerning the Administration of Justice in Lower Canada," to which they desire the concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read for the first time.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Matheson, it was

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a second time on Monday next.

A Message was brought from the Legislative Assembly, by their Clerk, to return the Bill intituled "An Act to make further Provision for the safety of Passengers by Steam"boats," and to acquaint this House, that they have passed the said Bill, with several amendments, to which they desire the concurrence of the Legislative Council.

The said amendments were then read by the Clerk, as follows:

Page 1, line 13. After "is" insert "Lakes Ontario, Erie, St. Clair, Huron and Superior, "and the rivers and waters connecting the same."

Page 1, line 14. After "from" leave out "the City of Quebec," and insert "Grosse "Isle or Quarantine Station."

The said amendments being read a second time, and the question of concurrence put on each, they were severally agreed to.

Ordered, That the Clerk do go down to the Legislative Assembly, and acquaint that House, that the Legislative Council doth agree to the amendments made to the said Bill, without any amendment.

A Message was brought from the Legislative Assembly, by their Clerk, to return the Bill intituled "An Act to amend and extend the Act to incorporate the Carillon and "Grenville Railway Company."

And also, the Bill intituled "An Act to amend the Act intituled An Act to incor"porate the Montreal Mining Company,"" and to acquaint this House, that they have agreed to the amendments made by the Legislative Council to the said Bills, without any amendment.

The Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet, from the Select Committee to whom was referred the Bill intituled "An Act to extend to Cities certain provisions of the Assessment Act, now "applicable to Counties," reported that they had gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same, with several amendments, which he was ready to submit whenever the House would be ready to receive them.

Resolved, That a Message be sent to the Honorable the Legislative Council, praying that that House will grant leave to the Honorable John Hamilton, if he so desires, to give evidence before the Select Committee of this House, appointed to inquire and report in reference to discriminating Railway freight and Passenger rates in this Province.

Ordered, That the Honorable Mr. Brown do carry the said Message to the Legislative Council.

And then they withdrew.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day, the following Petitions were severally read:

Of the Municipal Council of the Township of Murray, in the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham; praying that no measures may be entertained by the Legislature relating to or interfering with any matter arising out of the construction of gravel roads under a certain loan obtained from the Municipal Loan Fund of Upper Canada.

Of Thompson & Co., Contractors for the Parliamentary Printing; praying for the correction of the terms of their contract.

Of the Municipal Council of the Township of Romney; praying for aid to open certain

side roads.

The Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet presented to the House, a Return to an Address to His Excellency the Governor General, dated the sixth of March last, praying His Excellency to cause to be laid before this House, a Return of all cases in the Court of Chancery, for Upper Canada, standing for judgment on the thirty-first of December, A. D., 1859, with the dates when the said cases were argued, and of all judgments which have been given in the said Court during the year ending on that day; and whether such judgments were delivered in open Court, or communicated through the Registrar, and if through that officer, the dates when such judgments were made known to the parties interested, and whether the reasons for such last judgments were in any way communicated therewith. Ordered, That the same do lie on the table, and it is as follows:

The Honorable Sir E. P. Taché, from the Select Committee appointed to examine and report upon the Contingent Accounts of this House, for the present Session, presented their Fourth Report.

14 May, 1860.

The Select Committee appointed to examine and report upon the Contingent Accounts of the Legislative Council for the present Session, beg leave to make their Fourth Report. In obedience to the order of reference of the sixteenth of April last, your Committee have considered the petition of Bridget O'Hara, widow of the late Timothy Neary, in his lifetime one of the messengers of the Legislative Council, praying for relief; and in obedience to the order of reference of the seventh instant, your Committee have further considered their Third Report; and thereupon your Committee recommend that one hundred dollars be paid to the Petitioner, as a gratuity, and that the said Report be adopted.

Your Committee have also examined the Clerk's accounts from the first day of January last to the eighth instant.

On the first mentioned day there was a balance in the Clerk's hands, to the credit of your Honorable House, of four thousand eight hundred and six dollars and forty-one cents, ($4,806 41) as appears by the second report of your Committee. The Clerk has since received twenty-four thousand five hundred and forty-one dollars, ($24,541) making in all twenty-nine thousand three hundred and forty-seven dollars and forty-one cents, ($29,347 41) to be accounted for by that officer.

The Clerk has accounted, to the satisfaction of your Committee, by vouchers numbered from one to two hundred and twenty-seven, both inclusive, for the expenditure during the above period of thirty thousand three hundred and nineteen dollars and forty-six cents, (30,319 46), so that, on the eighth instant there was a balance of nine hundred and seventytwo dollars and five cents ($972 05), due to him by your Honorable House.

To cover this sum, and to enable the Clerk to defray the current expenses of your Honorable House during the remainder of the Session, and throughout the approaching recess, your Committee recommend that application be made in the proper quarter for advances to the Clerk of such sums as he may require from time to time, until the commencement of next Session. Such advances not to exceed, in the whole, seventy thousand dollars, ($70,000).

Your Committee find from the Clerk's accounts, that Joiner's work to the amount of sixteen hundred dollars ($1600), and certain other work, done to that part of the Parliament Building occupied by your Honorable House, has been paid for out of the Contingent

Fund.

Your Committee recommend that, in future, application be made to the Commissioner of Public Works whenever any works of construction or repair, or any articles of furniture are required for the service of your Honorable House.

And with reference to any such works or furniture already ordered on behalf of your Honorable House, your Committee recommend that the accounts for the same be not paid until they have been examined and approved by the Commissioner of Public Works. All which is respectfully submitted.
