CONNOR, who married Slany, the daughter of Sir Turlogh O'Brien, and died in January 1603, leaving issue of the said marriage an eldest son,

DONOUGH, who died in January, 1634, leaving issue by his wife Honora, the daughter of Richard Wingfield, of Robertstown, in the county of Limerick, his eldest son,

CONNOR, who died in 1651, being killed in the service of His Majesty King Charles the Second, leaving issue him surviving by his wife Mary, the daughter of Teige Roe M'Mahon (who subsequently married Captain John Cooper), his eldest son,

DONOUGH, who was, in the year 1686, created a Baronet, with a limitation to the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten.

He married Lucia, the daughter of Sir George Hamilton, Baronet, and had issue by her an eldest son, Lucius, who died at Paris in the lifetime of his father, SIR DONOUGH, in 1717, having married Catherine, the daughter of the Right Honourable Thomas Keightley by Lady Frances Hyde, and having had issue EDWARD, his eldest son.

SIR DONOUGH O'BRIEN died in November, in the same year, 1717, and was succeeded in his Title of Baronet by his aforesaid grandson,

EARL and twelfth LORD INCHIQUIN, on the 3rd July, 1855, as aforesaid, succeeded to the Title and Dignity of the Barony of Inchiquin, as the thirteenth LoRd INCHIQUIN.

It is submitted that the above facts establish that the Claimant, the said Lucius thirteenth LORD INCHIQUIN, in the Peerage of Ireland, is entitled as such Peer, in pursuance of the provisions of the Act for the Union of Great Britain and Ireland, to Vote at Parliament of the the Election of Lords Temporal to represent the Peerage of Ireland in the United Kingdom.

PART I.

The Grant of the Dignity; and Extinction of Issue Male of Dermod, the Eldest Son of Murrough, the first Earl of Thomond, and Lord Inchiquin.

PROPOSITION I.

To Prove the Grant of the Dignity of a Baron, in the Peerage of Ireland, by the Title of BARON of INCHIQUIN, to MURROUGH O'BRIEN, with a limitation to the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten.

Note. In the Annals of the Four Masters (Connellan's Translation), p 409, under heading "A. D. 1539," is the following entry :-" O'Brien of Thomond, i. e., Conor the son of Torlogh, son of

Teige, died, after having been in the Lordship for a considerable time, during which his country "flourished in great affluence and prosperity. Murrough, the son of O'Brien, i. e., the son of "Torlogh, son of Teige, was inaugurated his successor as a just reward of his own merits;" and under date "A.D. 1542," "Mac William of Clanrickard, namely Ulick of the Heads, and O'Brien, "i. e., Murrough, having gone to England, each of them was created an Earl."

THE ORIGINAL INROLMENT of the Letters Patent, dated 1st July, 1543, creating the dignity, from the Patent Rolls of the 35th Henry VIII, deposited in the Rolls Office, London, will be produced.

The grant and limitations of the said Letters Patent, so far as they relate to the title of Inchiquin, are as follow, namely:

“Et ullius de ubiori grã nrã spãli pfatum Mawrum Obreen in baronem parliamenti t regni nři Hiðniæ "ordinam deputam creamus t constituimp psentes atq, titulum nomen t stilum Baronis de Insykwyne in regno "não Hitniæ dicet locum in singulis Parliamentis infra dem regnu Hitniæ posthac celebrand celaq jura t "privilegia nĩa ipius regni baronib; ejusdem ex lege t consuetudine aliove quovis pacte ptinen eidem Mawro "Obreen damt concedim eisq, ipm adeo libet ample uti t gaudere sicu unqam aliquis baro đci regni nři

Note.-Murrough O'Brien was by the same Patent created Earl of Thomond for life, with the limitation of such title of Earl to his nephew, Donagh O'Brien.

PROPOSITION II.

To Prove that MURROUGH, FIRST EARL OF THOMOND AND LORD INCHIQUIN, died in 1551, leaving by his wife Eleanor (daughter of Sir Thomas Fitz Gerald, Knight of Glinn), three elder sons; namely, 1. DERMOD (Diermitius, afterwards second Lord Inchiquin), his eldest son; 2. TEIGE (Thadeus), his second son; and 3. DONOUGH (Donatus), his third son, the ancestor of the present Claimant, LUCIUS LORD INCHIQUIN. That the said DERMOD succeeded his father, and was the second LORD INCHIQUIN. That he left issue by his wife Margaret (the daughter of Donough, second Earl of Thomond) one son only, namely, MURROUGH, afterwards third LORD INCHIQUIN, who died in 1573, leaving by his wife, Margaret, the daughter of Sir Thomas Cusack, Knight, Chancellor and Lord Justice of Ireland, MURROUGH, his only son, afterwards fourth LORD INCHIQUIN (born in 1563).

ANCIENT ATTESTED-COPY Will of the said Murrough first (Earl of Thomond and) Lord Inchiquin, dated the 26th day of June, 5th Edward VI (1551), found among the family archives in the possession of the Claimant, wherein the testator refers to his wife and three sons by name, and sets forth the order of the respective births of the latter.
