D. J. Swarts, Ass't being all the medical gentlemen from Indiana attached to that Division of the army. The plan for the State Society presented by these gentlemen involves the organization of auxiliary County Societies, and they submit, also, the draft of a Constitution for this purpose.

It is very gratifying to have our bretheren in the army so mindful of the interests of our State Society, as this communication evinces, and both for the source from which it emanates and for its intrinsic merit, your committee bespeak for it a careful consideration. -All of which is respectfully submitted.

CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

OF THE

INDIANA STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY.

CONSTITUTION.

ARTICLE I.

This Association shall be called the STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF INDIANA.

ARTICLE II.

The object of this Society shall be to increase the knowledge and usefulness of the medical profession in the State of Indiana; to harmonize and utilize the intercourse of the members thereof; and to have representative and associate connexion with similar organizations in other States and the American Medical Association.

ARTICLE III.

The Society shall consist of resident and honorary members.

ARTICLE IV.

Resident members shall be regular practitioners of medicine in Indiana, and shall be elected and qualified in the manner prescribed by the By-Laws.

ARTICLE V.

Honorary members shall be gentlemen not medical practitioners in Indiana, and shall be elected and qualified in the manner prescribed by the By-Laws.

ARTICLE VI.

The officers shall be a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, an Assistant Secretary, a Correspondor, a Treasurer, and a Librarian, all of whom shall be elected in the manner, and perform the duties, prescribed by the By-Laws.

ARTICLE VII.

An annual meeting shall be held at the time, and in the place, prescribed by the By-Laws; and the By-Laws may also provide for holding other than the annual meeting.

ARTICLE VIII.

The following Organic Committees shall be appointed in the manner and they shall severally perform the duties prescribed by the ByLaws, viz:

1. An Admitting Committee.

2. A Financial Committee.
3. A Nominating Committee.
4. A Publishing Committee.
5. An Executive Committee.
6. An Ethical Committee.

7. A Prize Committee.

ARTICLE IX.

The By-Laws may provide for the appointment of Special Committees upon any subject pertinent to the purpose of this Society.

ARTICLE X.

The Ethics of this Society shall always be regulated by the Code in use at the time by the American Medical Association.

ARTICLE XI.

The funds shall consist of the initiation fees of members, and such other money as may be provided by the By-Laws.

ARTICLE XII.

Any member guilty of an offence against the good order of this Soclety may be expelled, suspended, reprimanded, or otherwise punished, in the manner provided by the By-Laws.

ARTICLE XIII.

All or any part of this Constitution may be rescinded, altered, or amended, at any meeting, by the unanimous consent of all the members present, or by a vote of two-thirds of the members present, when the proposition shall have been submitted in full, in writing, at a preceding meeting.
