Criminal Abortion-Dr. Fishback stated that having received no responses to his circular, he had nothing to report., Dr. Fishback, from Committee to present Memorial of American Medical Association, in relation to Criminal Abortion, to the Indiana Legislature, reported that he had written to the Chairman at the proper time, but no action. had been taken by the committee. Dr. Harvey, from Committee on use of White Lead in Burns, stated he thought the Chairman, Dr. Rooker, had a report, but was not present. Committee on Injurious Effects of Tobacco-Not present -no report. Committee on Progress of Surgery-Not present-no report. Committee on Progress of Medicine-Not present-no report. Committee on New Remedies-Dr. Harvey read an instructive report, upon which a lengthened discussion arose, participated in by some fifteen members, and proved both interesting and profitable. Referred to Committee on Publication. Committee on Microscope-Dr. West had a report, but not with him; deferred until to-morrow. Committee on Operations for Defective Vision-Not present-no report. Committee on Fevers of Indiana-Deferred until to-mor row. Committee on Progress of Obstetrics-Dr. Heavenridge had a report, but not with him; deferred until to-morrow. Committee on Medical Education-Dr. Hibberd read a report, which, on motion of Dr. West, was made the special order for to-morrow, 10 o'clock A. M. On motion of Dr. Sexton, adjourned to 8 o'clock p. m., to hear the President's Address. EVENING SESSION. 8 O'CLOCK, P. M. The President called the Society to Order, and Dr. Fishback, Vice President, took the Chair. The President read his address, being a Review of Medical Education, as it is and as it ought to be. The address was warmly discussed for more than an hour, thirteen members giving their views, some advocating the general doctrines advanced by the President, others as positively condemning them. On motion of Dr. Woodburn, the address was referred to the Committee on Publication. Adjourned to 8 o'clock to-morrow morning. SECOND DAY. WEDNESDAY, May 22, 8 o'clock a. M. The President called the Society to Order, pursuant to adjournment. Minutes of yesterday's proceedings read and approved. Reports called for. Librarian not present-no report. Dr. West, from the Committee on Admissions, reported a number of persons as proper to be admitted to member-ship, whose names will be found at the close of the minutes. Executive Committee-Not present-no report. Finance Committee-Not present-no report. Dr. Woodburn moved that the assessment for this year be two dollars on each member. Adopted. Dr. Athon, Superintendent of the Hospital for the Insane, on behalf of the Commissioners of that Institution and himself, invited the Society to hold a session in a room at that Hospital, which, on motion of Dr. Fishback, was accepted for this P. M. at 2 o'clock. Committee on Ethics-Dr. Hibberd, Chairman, read report, which was accepted. Committee on Use of White Lead in Burns-Not present. Committee on Evil Effects of Tobacco-Not present-no report. Committee on Progress of Medicine-A request was received from Dr. Moffett, asking committee to be continued, which was agreed to. Committee on Microscope-Dr. West read report, followed by a verbal narration of a case where a wheat beard penetrated the solids behind the tonsil, and continued advancing until it penetrated the internal carotid artery, inducing suppuration and sloughs that opened the artery and caused the death of the patient by hemorrhage. The beard was introduced, and with the assistance of Dr. Fishback, exhibited under the Microscope. The report was laid on the table to take up the special order. Dr. Fishback offered the following resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That the pecuniary relations of the members of this Society, and their resulting duties, be referred to a Committee to report at the next meeting. Drs. Fishback, West, and Collings were appointed the Committee. The special order-the report on Medical Educationwas taken up, and after various motions and a long discussion, Dr. Fishback moved that the report and accompanying papers be published in the Transactions; that the whole matter be referred to a committee of three; and that further consideration be postponed until said committee report to the meeting next year. This was agreed to, and Drs. Kitchen, Comingore, and Lockhart appointed said committee. The President announced as the Committee on Nominations, Drs. Woodburn, Harvey, Lockhart, Comingore, and Skinner. Adjourned to 2 o'clock P. M. AFTERNOON SESSION. 2 O'CLOCK P. M. Pursuant to the order of the morning session, the society met, took carriages provided, and proceeded to the Asylum for the Insane. After following the courteous pilotage of Dr. Athon through the various departments of this extensive and well-ordered establishment, the Society assembled in the chapel of the Institution, and proceeded to business. President in the Chair. Report on the Microscope taken up, discussed, and, on motion of Dr. Parvin, referred to the Committee on Publication. Dr. Lockhart was appointed a committee to make analysis of the excretions from day to day, in some case of disease to be selected by himself, and report to next annual meeting. Committee on Use of White Lead-Dr. Rooker read a report, strongly advocating the use of Lead. Referred to Committee on Publication. Committee on Fevers of Indiana-Dr. Comingore had no report prepared, and at his own request, was continued, to report next year. Committee on Progress of Obstetrics-Dr. Heavenridge read a report, which, on motion of Dr. Woodburn, was referred to Committee on Publication.
