REPORT OF THE SECTION ON THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE AND OBSTETRICS. WEDNESDAY, May 4, 1870. THE Section organized by appointing Dr. Jos. KAMMERER, of New York, as Chairman, and Dr. JAS. C. JACKSON, of Connecticut, Secretary. Dr. E. K. HUNT, of Connecticut, offered certain resolutions on Anæsthesia and its Discovery, which, on motion of Dr. A. JACOBI, of New York, were laid on the table. Papers were read by Dr. J. H. GRISCOM, of New York, on the Use of Sulphite of Soda, and on the Use of Glycerine Externally; and by Dr. R. BURNS, of Pennsylvania, on the Sulphite of Soda. On motion, these papers were returned to their authors with the thanks of the Section. Dr. L. J. DEAL, of Pennsylvania, offered a paper on Cultivation of the Cinchona in the United States, which, on motion, was referred to the Association, with a recommendation that it be referred to the Section on Materia Medica. Dr. JOHN BYRNE, of New York, read a paper on Intra- Uterine Injection, which, on motion, was referred to the Association for publication. Dr. H. J. MEISEL, of New York, reported a case of Acute Puerperal Mania, treated by Hydrate of Chloral. On motion, Dr. MEISEL was requested to publish it in some medical journal. Adjourned. THURSDAY, May 5, 1870. The Section was called to order by the Chairman. Dr. NATHAN ALLEN, of Massachusetts, read a paper on the Physiological Laws of Human Increase. On motion, the paper was referred to the Association for publication. On motion, the subject of Anesthesia, tabled yesterday, was taken up, and on motion it was Resolved, That, in the opinion of this Section, there no longer exists a reasonable doubt that to Dr. HORACE WELLS alone belongs the honor of having discovered and demonstrated, on De cember 11th, 1844, the great principle of Modern Anæsthesia.
