Chapter 52, Rev. Statutes, amend. ed as follows.

Section 71 amended.

Following section added.

Teachers' oath.

1. Chapter 52 of the Revised Statutes, entitled "Of Public Instruction," is hereby amended as follows:

(1) Section 71 is amended by adding at the end thereof the words following:

Except in the cases of any section the schools of which are affiliated with the Provincial Normal School and of City of Halifax, in which two cases the amount shall not "in any year exceed twelve hundred dollars.”

(2) The following section is added after section 67:

67A. "The time employed by the principal of the schools of any school section in supervising or grading the schools, the time employed by teachers of his staff who are required to assist in the grading of any of the departments, the time teachers are in attendance at certain educational institutes with the consent of their trustees, and the time lost by the necessary closing of a school on account of such conditions as the presence of contagious disease, shall be reckoned as authorized teaching time in lieu of actual teaching on authorized teaching days, according to the conditions prescribed by the Council.".

(3) The form given for teachers' oath in the third schedule is repealed and the following substituted therefor:

SECTION I. Provision respecting taxation of property in Brooklyn C. school section, No. 35,-
Kings County.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly,. as follows:

1. All property, real and personal (save that by law exspecting taxation empt by taxation), owned by persons resident within the limits of Brooklyn C. School Section, No. 35, in Kings County, and situate within the limits of Cold Brook School Section, No. 37, shall be liable to taxation, so far as schools. are concerned, for the support of the public school of Brooklyn C. School Section, No. 35, only, and for the support of no other schools whatsoever.

CHAPTER 40.

An Act to amend Chapter 70, Revised Statutes 1900, entitled "The Municipal Act."

SECTION 1.

(Passed the 4th day of April, A. D., 1901).

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. Section 127 of chapter 70, Revised Statutes, 1900, is Statutes, amend- amended by adding thereto the following sub-sections:

(2) But nothing herein contained shall prevent the municipality from time to time effecting temporary loans from any chartered bank in the Province of Nova Scotia for the purpose of defraying the annual current expenditure of the municipality which has been duly authorized by the council, and the interest upon such loans shall be provided for in the annual estimates.

(3) Such last-mentioned loan or loans shall not in the whole be at any time more than five thousand dollars, and when that amount has been borrowed the power to borrow shall cease until the said loans have been reduced, when the power may be exercised to the limit mentioned.

CHAPTER 41.

An Act to amend Chapter 71, Revised Statutes, 1900, "The Towns' Incorporation Act."

(Passed the 4th day of April, A. D., 1901).

SECTION 1. Section 263, chapter 71, Revised Statutes, amended.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. Section 263, of chapter 71, of the Revised Statutes of Section 263, cap. Nova Scotia, 1900, "The Towns' Incorporation Act," is amended. amended by repealing sub-section (67) and substituting the following therefor:

(67) Licensing and regulating auctioneers and junk dealers, with power to discriminate between those who are ratepayers within the town and those who are not ratepayers within the town, as to the amount of the license fee to be charged, and licensing and regulating pedlers and hawkers and traders of goods who are not ratepayers within the town.

1. Chapter 73, of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1900, "The Assessment Act," is amended in the manner following:

Section 23. By striking out the words "and fire,” in line three of said section 23, and substituting therefor the words "fire, accident, guarantee and other."

Section 26.

By striking out the words "or fire," in line two of said section twenty-six, and substituting therefor the words, "fire, accident, guarantee, or other.'

First schedule. By striking out the words "or fire," in line two of section four of the said first schedule, and substituting therefor the words "fire, accident, guarantee, or other."
