angry, and would not go in: but his father coming out, intreated him. 29 And he answering, said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and never did I transgress thy command: and thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: 30 But when this thy son was come, who hath devoured thy means of living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. 31 And he said to him, Child, thou art always with me, and all that I have is thine. 32 But it was needful to make merry, and be glad for this thy brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.

THE PARABLE OF THE UNJUST STEward. Luke xvi., 1-13.

Perea.

1AND he said also to the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and he was accused to him of wasting his possessions. 2And calling him, he said to him, What is this that I hear of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. 3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing that my lord is taking away from me the stewardship? I have not strength to dig; to beg I am ashamed. 41 know what I will do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses 5And having called every one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, How much owest thou to my lord? 6And he said, A hundred baths* of oil And he said to him, Take thine agreements, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. 7Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, a hundred quarters of wheat. He saith to him, Take thine agreements and write eighty. 8And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely for the sons of this age are in their generation wiser than the sons of light. 9And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of un

house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. 4 Then saith Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, who was about to betray him, 5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor? 6 But this he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag, carried what was put therein. 7Then Jesus said, Let her alone, that she may keep it for the day of my burial; 8 For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.

THE PROCESSION OF JESUS FROM BETHANY TO JERUSALEM. Matt. xxi., 1-11; Mark xi., 1-11.

Luke xix., 29-47.

29 AND it came to pass, as he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 30Saying, Go ye into the opposite village; in which on entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man yet sat: and having loosed it, bring it. 31 And if any one ask you, Why do ye loose it? ye shall say thus, Because the Lord hath need of it. 32 And on departing they who were sent found even as he had said to them. 33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said to them, Why loose ye the colt? 34 And they said, Because the Lord hath need of it. 35 And they led it to Jesus: and having cast their garments upon the colt, they sat Jesus thereon. 36 And as he went, they spread their garments in the way. 37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38Saying, Blessed is the King in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples. 40 And he answering said, I tell you that, if these should be silent, the stones will cry out. 41 And as he drew near, beholding the city, he wept over it, 42Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou at least in this thy day the things concerning thy peace! but now they are hidden from thine eyes. 43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies

shall cast a rampart about thee, and compass thee
round, and keep thee in on every side, 44And shall level
thee with the ground, and thy children within thee;
and they shall not leave in thee stone upon stone, because
thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. 45 And
entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who
were selling; 46Saying to them, It is written, And my
house shall be a house of prayer: but ye have made
it a den of thieves. 47 And he was teaching daily in
the temple.

THE HOSANNAHS OF THE CHILDREN IN THE TEMPLE.
Matt. xxi., 15-17.

15 BUT the chief priests and the scribes having seen the wonderful things which he did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David! were much displeased, 16And said to him, Hearest thou what these say? But Jesus saith to them, Yes; have ye never read that out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou didst prepare praise? 17 And having left them he went out of the city into Bethany, and lodged there.

THE INTERVIEW OF CERTAIN GREEKS WITH JESUS.
John xii., 20-36.

20 AND there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast: 21These then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him saying, Lord, we would see Jesus. 22Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew and Philip come and tell Jesus: 23 And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24 Verily, verily, I say to you, Except the grain of wheat falling into the ground die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it beareth much fruit. 25 He who loveth his life loseth it and he who hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26If any one serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall my servant be if any one serve me, him will the Father honour. 27Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour! But on this account came I to this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy

name! Then came a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. 29The multitude, therefore, that stood by and heard it said there was thunder: others said, An angel hath spoken to him. 30Jesus answered, and said, This voice came not on my account, but for you. 31Now is a judgment of this world: now shall the ruler of this world be cast out, 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself. 33 And this he said, signifying by what kind of death he was about to die. 34Then the

multitude answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? 35Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little time the light is among you. Walk whilst ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you: for he who walketh in the darkness knoweth not where he goeth. 36 As ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be sons of light.

18 Now in the morning, returning into the city, he hungered. 19And seeing a solitary fig tree on the way, he came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only, and he saith to it, No more fruit shall come from thee for ever. And instantly the fig tree withered away. 20 And the disciples having seen it, marvelled, saying, How suddenly the fig tree withered! 21 But Jesus answering, said to them, Verily, I say to you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, not only shall ye do this to the fig tree, but if ye shall say to this mountain, Be thou lifted up, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

THE TABLES OF THE MONEY-CHANGERS OVERTHROWN. Matt. xxi., 12 & 13.

12 AND Jesus went into the temple of God and cast out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of those selling doves, 13And saith to them, It hath been written, My house shall be called a house of prayer; but ye are making it a den of thieves.
