Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also. 20These words he spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple : and no one took him ; for his hour was not yet come. 21 Then he said again to them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: where I go, ye cannot come. 22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Where I go, ye cannot come. 23 And he said to them, Ye are of those beneath; I am of those above : ye are of this world: I am not of this world. 241 said to you, that ye shall die in your sins : for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. 25T'hen they said to him, Who art thou ? Jesus then said to them, What I say to you, even from the first. 261 have many things to say and to judge concerning you : but he who sent me is true; and I speak to the world what things I heard from him. 27 They understood not that he spoke to them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus : When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am he, and from myself I do nothing; but as the Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he who sent me, is with me; he hath not left me alone, for I do always those things that please him. 30 As he spoke these words, many believed on him. 31 Therefore said Jesus to those Jews who believed on him, If ye continue in my word, ye are truly my disciples ; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any one : how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free ? 34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one who committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever; the son abideth for ever. 361f therefore the son shall set you free, ye shall be free indeed. 371 know that ye are Abraham's seed : but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 38I speak what I have seen with my Father: and ye then do what ye have heard from your father. 39They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were Abraham's
children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40But now ye seek to kill me, a man who hath told you the truth, which I heard from God : this did not Abraham. 41 Ye do the works of your father. They said to him, We were not born of fornication: we have one father, even God. 42Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, ye would love me; for I proceeded forth and am come from God; for neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43Why do ye not understand my speech ? because ye are not able to listen to my word. 44Ye are of the father the devil, and the desires of your father ye are willing to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stood not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh the lie, he speaketh of his own : for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45But because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46Who of you convicteth me of sin ? If I speak truth, why do ye not believe me? 47 He who is of God heareth the words of God: On this account ye hear not, because ye are not of God. 48The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast å demon? 49Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me. 50 And I seek not my glory: there is one who seeketh and judgeth. 5iVerily, verily, I say to you, If any one shall keep my word he shall never see death. 52The Jews said to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou savest, If any one keep my word, he shall never taste of death. 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died ? and the prophets who died: whom makest thou thyself? 54Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who glorifieth me; of whom ye say that He is our God : 55And ye have not known him; but I know him. And if I should say, I know him not, I should be a liar, like to you : but I know him and I keep his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he might see my day; and he saw it, and was glad. 57Therefore said the Jews to him, Thou hast not yet fifty years, and hast thou seen Abraham ? 58Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham was born, I am.

THE MAN BORN Blind HEALED ON THE SABBATH. John ix., 1-12.
Jerusalem. TAND passing by, he saw a man blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind ? 3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents : but that the works of God may be manifested in him. We must work the works of him who sent us, while it is day; night cometh, when no one can work. 5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Having said these words, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay, And said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is, interpreted, Sent.) Then he went and washed, and came seeing, 8The neighbours therefore, and they who before had seen him as a beggar, said, Is not this he who sat and begged ? 9Some said, This is he: others said, No, but he is like him, He himself said, I am he. 10Therefore said they to him, How then were thine eyes opened ? llHe answered, The man who is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said to me, Go to Siloam, and wash : then having gone and washed, I received sight. 12 And they said to him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.
THE MAN WHO WAS HEALED CAST out. John, ix., 33-41.
35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and having found him, said, Dost thou believe on the Son of man? 36 He answered and said, Lord, and who is he, that I might believe on him ? 37Jesus said to him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he who talketh with thee. 38 And he said, Lord, I believe : and he did homage to him. 39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come | into this world, that they who see not might see ; and that they who see may become blind. 40Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard this, aud said to

VERILY, verily, I say to you, He who entereth not through the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2But he who entereth in through the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the porter openeth ; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. When he hath put forth all his own, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him : for they know his voice : 5But a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him : for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spoke Jesus to them : but they understood not what things they were which he spoke to them. Then said Jesus, Verily, verily, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All whoever came are thieves and robbers : but the sheep did not hear them. 9I am the door: through me if any one enter he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, except that he may steal, and kill, and destroy : I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. 111 am the good shepherd. The good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep. 12The hireling also not being a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth ; and the wolf catcheth and scattereth them : 13 Because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 141 am the good shepherd, and know mine, and mine know me, 15Even as the Father knoweth me, I also know the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: those

a schism again among the Jews through these words. 20 Then many of them said, He hath a demon, and is mad; why hear ye him ?' 210thers said, These are not the words of a demoniac. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind ? 22 And it was the feast of Dedication in Jerusalem ; it was winter; 23 And Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon's porch. 24 Then came the Jews round about him and said to him, How long dost thou keep us in suspense ? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25Jesus answered, I told you, and ye believe not: the works thai I do in the name of my Father, they bear witness of me. 26But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall pluck them out of my hand. 29The Father who gave them to me, is greater than all ; and no one is able to pluck them out of the Father's hand. 301 and the Father are one. 31 The Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from the Father; for which work of these do ye stone me ? 33The Jews answered him, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law I said, Ye are gods ? 35If he called them gods to whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be made void; 36 Say ye to him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God ? 37If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not: 38But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works ; that ye may know, and understand, that the Father is in me, and I in the Father. 39Therefore they sought to take him : and he escaped out of their hand.
