An ACT to enable the Supervisors of the several Towns in the County of Orange, to raise the Sum of Three Thousand Two Hundred Dollars for the Purposes therein mentioned.

Paffed February 20th, 1802.

E it enacted by the People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, That the fupervifors of the feveral towns in the county of Orange, for the time being, or a majority of them, fhall be and are hereby authorised to direct to to be raised and levied, on the freeholders and inhabitants of the 2 faid county, the fum of three thousand two hundred dollars, for the purpose of raising the court house and gaol in the town of Goshen, in the faid county, one story higher, and to make the prifon rooms on the third floor, and to repair the fame, with the additional fum of five cents on each dollar for collecting the fame; which fum fhall be raised, levied and collected, in the fame manner as the other neceffary and contingent charges of the faid county are levied and collected.

II. And be it further enacted, That it fhall be lawful for the fupervisors of the faid county, or a majority of them, to appoint commiffioners to fuperintend the altering and repairing the court house and gaol in the town of Goshen, in the county aforefaid; and the faid commiffioners, or a major part of them, may contract with workmen and purchafe materials for altering and repairing the fame, and shall from time to time draw upon the treasurer of the faid county, for fuch fums of money for the purpofes afore4 faid, as fhall come into the treasury by virtue of this act; and the treasurer is hereby required out of the monies aforefaid, to pay to the order of the faid commiffioners, the feveral fums of 5 money to be by them drawn for; and it is hereby made the duty of fuch commiflioners, fo to be appointed, to account with the fupervisors of the faid county, for the monies which they fhall have received from the treafury when thereunto required.

III. And be it further enacted, That it fhall and may be lawful 6 for the treasurer to retain in his hands the fum of one cent on each dollar, for his trouble in receiving and paying out the monies directed to be raised by this act.

Paffed March 3d, 1802. I. E it enacted by the People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, That the fupervifors of the county of Greene, be and they are hereby empowered and directed to raise and levy on the freeholders and inhabitants of the faid county, a fum not exceeding two thousand fix hundred and feven dollars, and thirty-four cents, with the additional fum of five cents on each dollar for collecting the fame, and one cent on each dollar for treasurer's fees, which faid fum fhall be raised, levied and collected in the fame manner as the other neceffary and contingent charges of the faid county are raifed, levied and collected.

11. And be it further enacted, That the treafurer of the faid county, thall pay over the money fo to be collected, as the fame fhall come into his hands, to the faid commiffioners or to fome one of them, and the commiffioners or commiffioner, who fhall fuperintend the finishing of the faid gaol, fhall account with the board of fupervifors, for the expenditure of the faid money, when thereunto required.

An ACT for building a Court House and Gaol in the County of Clinton. Paffed March 26th, 1802.

I.

E it enacted by the People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, That the supervisors of the feveral towns in the county of Clinton, for the time being, or a majority of them, fhall be and hereby are authorised to direct to be raised and levied on the freeholders and inhabitants of the faid county, the fum of fifteen hundred dollars for building a court house and gaol in the faid county, with the additional fum of five cents on each dollar for collecting the fame, which faid fum fhall be raised, levied and collected, in the fame manner as the other neceffary and contingent charges of the faid county are levied and collected.

II. And be it further enacted, That it fhall be lawful for the fupervisors and judges and affiftant juftices of the court of common pleas in the faid county, or a majority of them, to appoint three commiffioners to fuperintend the building the faid court house and gaol in the faid county of Clinton, at fuch place as the faid judges and affiftant juftices and fupervifors, or a major part of them, fhall defignate for the purpofe, on fuch plan as the faid commiffioners, or a major part of them, fo to be appointed, fhall 3 judge beft: and the faid commiffioners, or a major part of them, may contract with workmen, and purchase materials, for erecting faid court house and gaol; and from time to time draw upon the treasurer of the faid county, for fuch fums of money for the purposes aforefaid, as fhall come into the treasury by virtue of this act, and the treasurer is hereby required, out of the monies aforefaid, to pay to the order of the faid commiffioners, the feveral fums of money to be by them drawn for; and it is hereby made the duty of fuch commiffioners fo to be appointed, to account with the fupervifors of the faid county, for the monies which they fhall have received from the treasury, when thereunto required.

III. And be it further enacted, That it fhall and may be lawful for the treafurer of the faid county to retain in his hands, the fum of one cent on each dollar, for his trouble in receiving and paying out the monies directed to be raised by this act.

IV. And be it further enacted, That the faid commiffioners, so to be appointed as aforefaid, fhall, and are hereby authorised and required to lay out, expend and appropriate the fum of two hundred and fifty dollars, heretofore raised in the faid county of Clinton, for making repairs to the temporary building erected by the voluntary exertions of the citizens of Plattsburgh, for the purpofe of accommodating the courts held in the faid county of Clinton, until a new court houfe fhould be erected in the faid county of Clinton, in the building and erecting of the gaol and court houfe by this act directed to be erected: And the treasurer of the faid county is hereby required to pay the faid fum of two hundred and fifty dollars, laft mentioned, to the faid commif fioners, or their order, whenever by them, or a major part of them, he fhall be required fo to do.

V. And be it further enacted, That in cafe the faid judges, af- 9 fiftant juftices and fupervifors, or a majority of them, fhould incline to fix upon that part of the town of Plattsburgh where the block-houfe is fituated, for the building of the court houfe and gaol aforefaid, they are hereby authorised to convert the faid block-houfe into fuch court house and gaol, or to make ufe of the materials of which the fame is compofed for the above purpose.

An ACT for the Payment of certain Officers of Government and for other Purposes,

I.

1. Bed

Paffed April 5th, 1802.

E it enacted by the People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, That the treasurer of this flate 1 fhall on or before the first day of July next, on the warrant of the comptroller, pay to Simeon De Witt, furveyor-general of this ftate, the fum of twelve hundred and fifty dollars, for his fervices in his faid office, from the first day of July laft to the first day of July next, and fuch further disbursements on the like warrant of the comptroller as have been incurred by the faid turvey. or-general in executing the act, entitled "An act, authorising the holding a treaty with the St. Regis Indians, and for the relief of William Gray and Jacob Dockstader," and for certain furveys and appraisements of lands in the late Oneida refervation.

II. And be it further enacted, That the treasurer fhall pay John Barber, printer to this ftate, fuch fums of money as fhall be certified by the comptroller to be due to him for printing the laws and journals of the prefent feffion of the legislature, and fuch other

printing as has been or may be done by him for this flate; and alfo to Whiting and Leavenworth, fuch fums as fhall be certified by the comptroller to be due to them, for printing done for this ftate; and that the treafurer of this ftate ihall pay, on the warrant of the comptroller, to Charles R. and George Webster, such fum as fhall be certified by the comptroller to be due to them for printing bufinefs done by them for this flate, under the direction of the fecretary of ftate.

III. And be it further enacted, That the treasurer fhall pay to Solomon Van Renffelaer, adjutant general of the militia of this ftate, on the warrant of the comptroller, fuch fum of money as may appear to be due to him for his fervices in that ftation, from the first day of July laft, until the paffing of this act, at the rate of fifteen hundred dollars per annum, and fuch further fum of money as may be due to the faid adjutant general at the rate aforefaid, for fervices in the like ftation, from the twenty-third day of January, 1801, to the feventh day of April, in the fame year.

IV. And be it further enacted, That the treasurer fhall pay, on the warrant of the comptroller, to fuch of the clergy, as fhall have attended the legiflature as chaplains, during the prefent feffion, the fum of two dollars and fifty cents, for every day they have fo attended, which fum fhall be certified by the prefident of the fenate or speaker of the affembly, and alfo fuch fums as fhall be certified by the fecretary of the late convention, to be due to the clergy who attended the faid convention as chaplains.

V. And be it further enacted, That the treasurer fhall pay to the meffenger and door-keeper, of the council of revifion and council of appointment, the like compenfation per day, as is allowed to the door-keepers of the fenate and affembly.

VI. And be it further enacted, That the members of the council of appointment, fhall, for their attendance during the recess of the legiflature, be entitled to receive the fame allowance per day, and for travelling, as is allowed to the members of the legiflature.

And be it further enacted, That it fhall be lawful for the treasurer, on the warrant of the comptroller, to pay to the person adminiftering the government of this ftate, to defray the incidental expences which may arife in and about the adminiftering the government of this ftate, fuch fum or fums of money as he fhall require, not exceeding the fum of feven hundred and fifty dollars.

VII. And be it further enacted, That the treasurer of this ftate fhall, on the warrant of the comptroller, pay to Matthew Prendergaft, fuch fum as the comptroller fhall certify to be due to him, for his lawful cofts and expences, in and about the defence of feveral fuits in ejectment, lately commenced against him and others 'holding under him, for the recovery of lands fold by the commiffioners of forfeitures of the middle diftrict, and which became forfeited to the people of this ftate, by the attainder of Beverly Robinfon, not exceeding one hundred and twenty-five dollars.

IX. And be it further enacted, That the treasurer of this ftate fhall, on the warrant of the comptroller, pay to Sarah C. Van
