DAUPHIN COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY,

Harrisburg, Pa., Feb. 26, 1876.

We hereby certify that the above is a true and correct copy from the minutes of this Society.

[Signed]
Attest:

C. A. RAHTER, M.D., Pres.
HUGH HAMILTON, M.D., Sec'y.

Dr. TRAILL GREEN, of Northampton, offered the following, which was unanimously adopted :

Whereas, The Dauphin County Medical Society, from a sense of high professional duty, has endorsed the action of the surgeons and physicians in resigning their positions, in 1873, on the staff of the Harrisburg Hospital, on account of the introduction of homeopa thic practice:

Resolved, That this Society do commend and approve of that action.

Resolved, That while approving that action, we cannot endorse too fully the high-toned professional action which prompted the medical staff to decline to have anything to do with an institution that recognizes any system of practice based upon an "exclusive dogma."

Dr. W. I. LANGFITT, of Allegheny, offered the following:

Whereas, The students of homeopathic practitioners are annually graduated at regular medical colleges, openly avowing their intention to practise homoeopathy, it becomes the duty of this organization to take cognizance of the fact. Further, that the degree of M.D. conferred upon these men is contrary to facts set forth in the annual catalogues of these colleges, to wit, that the student, before admission, must have read medicine for a specified number of years, in the office of a regular member of the profession. Further, that this constant admission of students of homeopathic practitioners is detrimental to the remaining graduates of these colleges, an injury to the profession at large, and calculated to put a premium upon quackery, and to bring the colleges into disrepute both at home and abroad; therefore be it

Resolved, That it is the opinion of this organization that the faculties of the various medical colleges, in justice to their graduates, should remedy this evil, and that in all instances of doubt as to the standing of a student's preceptor, they should refer to the county society in the county from which such student

comes.

Dr. W. H. WINSLOW, of Philadelphia, offered to amend :—

We, the delegates of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society, hereby express our earnest desire that the faculties of the regular medical schools shall demand of each candidate for graduation a certificate of three years' study of medicine, from a regular physician, whose respectability is endorsed by the county society.

After discussion by Drs. COHEN, KEIFFER, BAEHR, POLLOCK, SIBBET, AGNEW, and others, on motion of Dr. J. W. C. O'NEAL, of Adams, the whole subject was laid on the table.

Dr. A. M. POLLOCK, of Allegheny, offered the following:

No member of any county medical society shall admit into his office a student of medicine, until he presents a certificate from the examining committee, testifying that he has been duly examined, and has a good English education, and sufficient knowledge of Latin and Greek to enable him to pursue his studies with advantage.

After much discussion, on motion of Dr. J. L. STEWART, of Erie, it was referred to a committee of five, to report at the next meeting of the Society.

Committee: Drs. A. M. POLLOCK; J. L. STEWART, of Erie; I. PURSELL, of Montour; S. M. Ross, of Blair; and D. P. MILLER, of Huntingdon.

On motion of Dr. LANGFITT, this action was reconsidered.
