NY, THE SEVENTH DAY OF JANUARY, 1840.

CHAPTER 1.

AN ACT appointing a State Printer.

[Passed January 13, 1840.)

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate

and Assembly, do enact as follows :

§ 1. Thurlow Weed of the city of Albany, is hereby ap- T. Weod

pointed printer to the state in the place and stead of Edwin appointed

Croswell, for and during the term of four years, and shall per-er.

form all the duties, and render all the services enjoined or re-

quired by law or by concurrent resolution of the senate and

assembly.

§ 2. Åll notices and advertisements required by law to be Noticos in

published in the newspaper printed by the Printer to the state, the Albany
the publication of which has been commenced in the Albany
Argus, may be continued in the same paper, and shall be as
valid as if this act had not been passed.

§ 3. The Printer to the state shall hold his office for the Term of of-
term of four years, and until another be appointed in his place; how appoin
and such appointment shall hereafter be made by the senate ted here-
and assembly, in the manner prescribed by the constitution
for the appointment of Secretary of State; and any vacancy
occurring in the said office during the recess of the legislature
shall be supplied in the manner provided by law, in relation
to similar vacancies in the office of Secretary of State.

§ 4. The Secretary of State and the Comptroller are here- Contract to
by authorized to enter into a contract with the Printer to the
state appointed by this act, for the printing during the term
of his appointment, the journals of the two houses, the bills,
