PATTEN MAKERS' COMPANY.

MR. HARE'S REPORT.

TO THE CHARITY COMMISSIONERS FOR

ENGLAND AND WALES.
In pursuance of a Minute of the Board of the 1st of
November 1864, I have inquired into the condition of the
under-mentioned Charity under the management of the
Patten Makers' Company of the City of London. I have
stated in my report the result of my investigation.

SCRIMSHAW's CHARITY.
The style of the Company is “The Master, Wardens,
and Court of Assistants of the Worshipful Company of
Patten Makers of the City of London."

The Court consists of one master and two wardens and four assistants. There are about thirty liverymen, includ. ing the Court, and perhaps forty or fifty freemen not on the livery; the number of the latter are not exactly known.

SCRIMSHAW's CHARITY. Thomas Scrimshaw (who died in 1775) bequeathed the interest of 1,0001. £3 per cents. to the Company, one moiety

thereof to defray their expenses against unlawful workers, or, if not wanted, for a dinner once in three years on Lord Mayor's day. And the other moiety for four poor men free of the Company, and working Patten Makers free of the City, or to their widows, 408. each; and the remainder, being 71., he gave for a dinner for the Court of Assistants.

The sum now stands invested in 1,1001. New £2, per cents. in the names of Christopher Phillips, Samuel Hill, Joseph Bebb, and Robert Shaw.

Out of the dividends the Company pays 408. every month of March to four persons of the class referred to, if they can be found. There are now three on the list, two widows and one

There has been a vacancy on the list for about two years past. Advertisements have been inserted in the papers, but no application made. All which I submit to the Board.

(Signed) Thos. HARE,

Inspector of Charities.
