St. James, Clerkenwell, 21. 12s., which has been traditionally referred to as the gift of Thomas Herbert, but the Company have no other knowledge of the charge.

PAYNTER's CHARITY. Mr. Samuel Paynter in 1819 gave to the Company 1001. consols, the dividends of which he desired might be given to the three widovs inhabiting the newly erected almshouses. The almshouses here referred to had been an addition of three small houses on the site of Palyn's almshouses, erected by the Company out of their own funds as a dwelling for the widows of freemen who became removable by the death of their husbands. The sum of 1001. consols stands in the corporate name of the Company, part of a larger sum, and the dividends of 31. a year are paid to three widows of Palyn's almsmen, after they have left the house, which the Company also (as stated in the report on Hurt's Charity) make up to 321. a year for each person, by adding three sums of 291. of their own funds together with Welch's gift as a compensation for the loss of the dwellings which were taken down on the improvements of the St. Luke's estate.

(Bee Palyn's Charity.)

MOUNTFORD's CHARITY. Richard Mountford, by his will of the 1st August 1830, and proved November 1833, bequeathed 5001. to the Company to be invested in the funds, upon trust, to distribute the dividends amongst such poor members of the Company and widows, as the Master, Wardens, and Court of Assistants should direct. And by a codicil of the 3rd August 1833 the legacy was reduced to 4001. The sum of 4001. 3 per cent. consols stands in the corporate name of the Company, part of a larger sum, and the dividends, 121. per annum, are distributed to poor freemen, or widows of freemen, in a pension or pensions.

At the present time it is paid in one pension of 121. a year.

SIDNEY's CHARITY. Mr. Alderman Sidney in 1816 gave to the Company 100 guineas to be invested in consols, and the dividends paid towards the relief of a decayed member of the Court of Assistants when such there should be, and in the mean. time to invest the dividends in augmentation of the fund.

And in 1850 Mr. Alderman Sidney (then Master of the Company) gave a further sum of 100 guineas in augmentation of the Charity for the relief of the decayed members of the Court of Assistants.

These sums and the accumulations now amount to 3321. 16s. 9d. 3 per cent. consols, which stands in the corporate name of the Company. There has been a recipient of the interest of this Charity, but there is not one at present, All which I submit to the Board.

Tho. HARE, 2nd June 1865.

Inspector of Charities.

Welch's CHARITY. Mr. Deputy Welch in 1819 gave to the Company 2001. reduced annuities, the dividends of which he desired might be given to the three widows inhabiting the Cornpany's newly erected almshouses. This sum stands in the corporate name of the Company, and the dividends, 61. a year, form part of the three pensions of 321. a year mentioned in the report on Paynter's Charity.

GIRDLERS' COMPANY.

Welch AND PAYNTER's CHARITIES. The Girdlers' Company received on account of these Charities during the year 1881 the sum of 81. 15s. 9d , being the dividends on 3001. stock, and paid the same with other moneys out of their private funds to widows of Palyn's Almsmen.
