AN ACT

To provide for laying out certain territorial roads therein named.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin :

SECTION 1. That N. F. Hyer, D. L. Mills, and M. H.

Dickinson, be, and they hereby are appointed commissioners Janesville to to lay out and establish a territorial road, commencing at Madison. Janesville, thence on the nearest and most direct practicable

route, by Stone's bridge, Catfish mills, and Dunkirk, to Madi

son, in Dane county.

SEC. 2. That Jacob F. Adriance, Benjamin Seabring, and Grafton to Barton Sailsbury, be, and they are hereby appointed com- Fond du Lac. missioners to lay out a territorial road from Grafton, Washington county, to Fond du Lac, in Fond du Lac county, by such direct route as they shall find to be most feasible.

SEC. 4. That T. W. Merrito, W. F. Stewart, and R. Holmes, are hereby appointed commissioners, to lay out and establish a territorial road, from Sauk Washington, Washington county, to Sailsbury's mills, thence to Beaver Dam, in Dodge county, on the most direct and eligible route.

SEC. 5. That John H. Manahan, Eli B. Chapman, and John Van Eps, are hereby appointed to lay out and estab lish a territorial road, from Beaver Dam, Dodge county, to De Korra, Columbia county, by such route as they shall deem most suitable, and section three of an act entitled "an act to provide for the laying out of the territorial roads therein mentioned," approved February 3d, 1846, is hereby repealed.

SEC. 6. That the territorial road, known as the Madison Chicago road, and Chicago road, shall be, and the same is hereby so altered as to run west on the state line, from the point where it now strikes the state line, to within about sixty rods of the section corner between sections thirty-four and five, thence north, by the head of a spring, on P. W. Lake's land, thence north west, so as to strike the section line between sections thirty-four and thirty-five, at or near said Lake's gate, thence north, on said section line, to, or near a log house, on the land of Joseph J. Crumb, thence north westerly, so as to strike the north line of James A. Maxwell's farm, eighty rods west of the north east corner of section twenty-seven, thence due north to the Bigfoot, or Geneva road, thence west to the territorial road, near Douglas' tavern, and that so much of the said territorial road, as lies between said Douglas' tavern, on Bigfoot Prairie and the state line, is hereby declared to be vacated.

SEC. 7. That John Converse, George Knowles, and Sylvester Corban, be, and are hereby appointed commissioners to lay out a territorial road, from Columbus, in Columbia county, to Green Lake, in Marquette county, and section eight, of an act entitled "act to provide for the laying out

SEC. 11. That Harrison Reed, Henry Finch, and Joseph Nenah to Rapid DeLarmier, be, and they are hereby authorized to lay out and croche. establish a road from Neenah, in Winnebago county to the United States road, at or near Rapid Decroche, in the county of Brown.

SEC. 12. That John Hacey, H. W. G. McCaffaty, and Hacey's mills S. L. Corlin, be, and they are hereby appointed commission- road. ers to lay out and establish a territorial road, from Hacey's mills, in Dodge county, to the road from Waterloo, to Columbus, and to intersect the above named road at the distance of one mile and a half from the village of Columbus.

SEC. 13. That S. L. Corlin, C. S. Bristol, and John Manson, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners to Waupon. make such alterations in a territorial road leading from Madison to Waupon, by the way of Columbus and Beaver Dam, as in their judgment may be expedient.

SEC. 14. That the time for making the returns of the commissioners appointed by an act of the legislative assembly of this territory at its session in 1845, to lay out and establish a territorial road, from the county seat in Washington county, to Hustis' Rapids, on Rock river, be, and the same is hereby extended until the first day of January, 1848.

AN ACT

To incorporate the trustees of the Prairie du
Sac Academy.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

SECTION 1. That there be established in the village of Prairie du Sac, in the county of Sauk, a seminary of learning, by the name and style of the Prairie du Sac Academy, and that Ebenezer L. Bradford, Peter Conrad, Cyrus Leland, William H. Hubbard, Arba M. Seymour, George Cargill, Daniel Powers, Egbert Cary,. and Jonathan Ingram, and their associates and successors in office, be and they are hereby created a body politic and corporate, by the name and style of "The Trustees of the Prairie du Sac Academy," by which name they and their successors shall forever be known and have perpetual succession, and shall have power to contract.

SEC. 2. The stock of said corporation shall consist of A mount and shares of ten dollars each, which shall be deemed personal stock. property, and shall be transferable on the books of said corporation in such manner as shall be directed by the trustees

of the same.

SEC. 3. The corporate concerns of said academy shall be Officers, how managed by five trustees, a majority of whom shall consti- elected. tute a quorum for the transaction of business; they shall be elected annually on the first Monday of May by the stockholders of said academy, and shall hold their offices for the term of one year, and until their successors are elected. The election of trustees shall be by ballot, and each stockholder shall be entitled to one vote for each and every share by him owned to the amount of ten shares, and then to one vote for every five shares over and above that number. Any stockholder may vote in person or by proxy. The said trustees shall elect one of their number to be president, and shall have power to fill all vacancies in their own body. All elections shall be held at the academy building, when the corporation shall have erected one; and until then, elections shall be held at such place as shall be designated by a majority of stockholders, notice of the time and place being given in writing by such stockholders, posted up in three public places in Prairie du Sac, ten days at least before such election. If any election herein provided for shall not take place on the day appointed herein, such election may be held on any other day: Provided, that at least two or more stock
